Having kids is a huge responsibility. And with the limelight along with many of life’s curveballs, choosing to adopt a child is a big decision. But these celebrity LGBTQ parents chose to raise these kids as their own. Regardless of the reasons, these parents made sure to give their kids all the love, care, and support they needed.

1. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka

HIYM actors Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka became parents to adorable twins: Gideon Scott and Harper Grace on October 12, 2010, via surrogacy. The two celebrities started dating in 2004 but became more open as an LGBTQ couple in 2006, tying the knot in 2014.

2. Aiza Seguerra and Liza Diño

Since 2013, celebrity LGBTQ couple Aiza and Liza have been growing strong. Liza Diño has a daughter who Aiza lovingly considers his own. The two are also considering having more kids via IVF.

3. Terry Miller and Dan Savage

In 1998, Terry Miller and Dan Savage welcomed their son DJ into their lives through an adoption process. But the two made sure that the mom had a chance to still visit her son throughout his childhood. Dan mentioned in an interview last 2000 that parenting was all about “being responsible” and “not necessarily about gender”.

4. Anderson Cooper and Benjamin Maisani

CNN Anchor Anderson Cooper currently co-parents Wyatt with his partner, Benjamin Maisani. Upon welcoming his second son, Sebastian, in 2020, Maisani plans to become the little boy’s legal adoptive parent as well.

5. Jodie Foster and Alexandra Hedison

Actress Jodie Foster married photographer and actress Alexandra Hedison in 2014. They currently have two kids, Charles and Kit, from Jodie’s former partner—Cydney Bernard.

6. Cynthia Nixon and Christine Marioni

Sex in the City actress Cynthia Nixon is currently parenting her two kids from her previous relationship with Christine Marioni. Christine also has a son, Max, who she had in 2011.

7. Wanda Sykes and Alex Niedbalski

American comedian Wanda Sykes shares a pair of fraternal twins named Lucas and Olivia with her partner, Alex Niedbalski. At first, she wasn’t sure about kids but gladly welcomed the two in 2009.

Becoming a parent isn’t an easy job and some of us even double think about it in the midst of being one. However, these celebrities made a selfless choice to adopt or parent these kids. We’re also sure that no matter what happens, they plan to give these kids all the unconditional love and acceptance they can give.
