6 Tablescape Tips and Ideas for Small Homes
The pandemic truly brought out the platitos and platitas in many of us. And if you’re looking for tablescape tips, check these out!
Tablescaping was one avenue that many moms used to release all their pent-up creative energy, especially during the pandemic. Those with bigger spaces found themselves amassing shelves upon shelves of fancy flatware. But if you’re working with a smaller space and would like to dabble in themed arrangements of tableware, don’t get discouraged! Here are a few tablescape tips and ideas to give you inspiration.
Tablescape Tips for Some Inspo
1. Work with the flatware that you have
A lot of table setting designs make use of different plates, glassware, and cutlery. Unfortunately, these can take up a lot of space in your kitchen cabinets and cupboards. So instead of collecting these, just work with the existing sets you have! Or invest in ones that have a clean and timeless look—like the Corelle 18-Piece Dinnerware Set in Winter Frost White available at Rustan’s. It’s easier to dress these up depending on your linen, flowers, or napkin rings!
2. Play up the colors of your table cloth or linen
Linen is a lot easier to store compared to many sets of flatware—so you can play around with the colors of your table napkin instead. Earth-toned hues like beige or cream would look stunning against round Bangkuang placemats. Or if you want something more rustic, add in a burlap table runner!
3. Learn how to do different napkin folds—with or without a napkin ring
Doing different napkin folds can change up the look of your tablescape. There are many tutorials on YouTube that are very easy to follow. You can even jazz it up with cute napkin rings! Again, these are much smaller and easier to store compared to big, heavy plates and cutlery.
4. It’s all in the flowers
The star of most tablescape designs is the centerpiece. And flowers are the easiest and prettiest to work with. No need to get elaborate flower vases—simple cylindrical jars will do. Unless you’re going for a different theme, of course! Easily pair the color of your linen with flowers that look fresh for days—such as carnations, lilies, and hydrangeas.
5. Be resourceful and use existing items in your home
Sometimes, the most random items in your home can add an extra oomph to your tablescape. Hosting a dinner party? Use short whiskey glasses and turn them into tea light candle holders! Didn’t get to order flowers? How about using the succulents on your home office desk as centerpieces? Need to set a more romantic mood for a dinner date with the hubby? Those battery-operated Christmas lights placed inside a clear cylinder jar should do. You can even create a charcuterie board for a unique centerpiece.
Sometimes, less is more as a final tablescape tip.
If you’re a fan of timeless and minimalist designs, you can stick to the rule that less is more. There’s no need to go overboard with elaborate or extravagant centerpieces all the time. You just need a bit of resourcefulness and creativity!
