Barbie Breaks Boundaries Again with Dolls for Type-1 Diabetes and 90s Icon Clueless
Barbie announced its latest line in partnership with Breakthrough T1D HQ, and to celebrate the movie Clueless on its 30th anniversary
Barbie continues to champion diversity and celebrate pop culture in its latest line of dolls. The brand recently teamed up with Breakthrough T1D HQ to release a Barbie with Type-1 Diabetes.
Aside from the Type-1 Diabetes doll, Barbie has also unveiled its tribute to the movie Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Type-1 Diabetes doll
In a statement, Barbie and Breakthrough shared the story behind the Barbie doll partnership and the outfit she’s wearing.
“The doll represents the incredible people living with T1D, and shows kids that a life with this condition is just as vibrant, fulfilling, and rich with possibilities,’ they said. The doll is shown wearing a glucose monitor.
“Her blue polka dot style is a nod to the global symbols for diabetes awareness, and a reminder of the life-changing work being done by organizations like Breakthrough T1D, which are helping make everyday life with type 1 diabetes better.”
Clueless Collection
Aside from the Type-1 Diabetes doll, Barbie has also released a collection to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the movie Clueless, starring Alicia Silverstone.
In the photos released, the dolls are wearing the iconic plaid outfits of Cher (Alicia) and Dionne (Stacey Dash).
“Barbie celebrates three decades of Cher and Dionne, dressed preppy in plaid with a learner’s permit and cell phones in hand,” the post read.
Clueless is considered one of the classic movies of the 90s. The film was adapted from the classic novel Emma by Jane Austen. Clueless tells the story of Cher, a wealthy high school girl who is considered the stylish and IT girl in her school.
When a student named Tai Frasier moves to the school, she becomes Cher’s project and turns her into a popular figure. Along the way, Cher reflects on the people around her and discovers her true feelings, and lives a purposeful life.

Growing List for Collectors
The Clueless and Type-1 Diabetes dolls are the latest in the growing collection Barbie has made. This year, they’ve also released a She-Ra doll as well as a doll in time for the Lunar New Year.
Other dolls that were released include LeBron James, Tina Turner, Laverne Cox, and fashion designer Vera Wang. It’s a collectible that celebrates strength, legacy, and transformation across generations—one that parents may be excited to share with their children.
