Postpartum Fashion Tips From Danie Valdepenas
Here are some postpartum fashion tips from millennial mom Danie Valdepenas!
If there’s maternity and preggy fashion, then there’s also postpartum fashion! As we navigate the new chapter in our lives (with a new human being in tow), we’re also grieving for our past looks and discovering new styles to celebrate our “mama era.” Unfortunately, this is where things get overwhelming: so many pieces, but we’re unsure how to mix and match them.
Luckily, mommy blogger Danie Valdepenas has shared her fashion tips on her Instagram on how to celebrate the “mama era” even postpartum.

1. Style with a waist belt or an adjustable top with ties
While bellies are still shrinking back to their normal size, redirect the attention by using a waist belt. Especially if some of us naturally had small waists, a waist belt cinches and creates a slimming shape. Depending on what we’re wearing, the belt can either be textured or just a simple leather one.
But if belts feel heavy, then an adjustable top with ties will do just as well! Those kinds of tops usually have ties that fall right below the bust.
2. Go classy with loose, comfortable coordinates
Store away those body-hugging clothes for now—they’re most likely not going to fit and probably not going to be comfy.
While we often associate loose clothes with something “messy” and “not elegant,” a lot of times, it’s just the shape and color that can be off-putting. Electro colors can be shocking to the eyes, but neutrals like beige, white, black, brown, and gray work. Not only are they pleasing to the eyes, but they’re a lot less on the mental load when deciding what to wear for the day.
For Chinese families, having navy or burgundy coordinates is good too!
3. Textured tops and printed shorts
Postpartum can have bellies looking awkward, and if we’re breastfeeding, all the more we might feel even more uncomfortable with some looks.
What Danie does is she pairs some textured tops and printed shorts. The loudness of both the top and shorts draws the attention away from the belly. At some point, some even forget that we’re postpartum because of how much personality the outfit has.
4. Layered pants with accents
While it’s usually the tops with accents and personality, pants can have them too! Whether it’s a ribbon or a fringe, wearing layered pants with vertical accents can make a body look more slimming. Modern Filipiniana-themed pants usually have those kinds of designs. For those wondering, Danie Valdepenas got hers from KUL.
And if we can’t find a pair of pants that suits our personality with that design, some just fashion an accent using a sari or tie-dye shawl.

Postpartum fashion doesn’t mean always looking haggard
We always see candid reels and photos of postpartum moms. However, there’s also nothing wrong with trying to look good during the phase.
Besides, one of the biggest contributors to why breastfeeding can be so difficult is that we’re stressed and depressed. Hormones run at an all-time high. New schedules are still in trial-and-error mode. The idea that we just created another human is still settling in, even though we’ve been aware for the last nine months. So, it won’t hurt to get into a bit of postpartum fashion.
Just remember: the most important part of choosing or styling for postpartum is that you feel comfortable and great. You need only to impress yourself and nobody else.
