We Love This Grandmother and Grandson Genshin Impact Duo Cosplay!

Cosplayer Prince de Guzman shares on his Facebook page a sweet photoshoot of him and his grandmother cosplaying characters from popular gacha game, Genshin Impact, together

Most grandparents spend time with their grandchildren by playing or telling stories. But when you’re a cosplayer like Prince De Guzman, cosplay is definitely included in the bucket list of fun things to do. He and his grandmother, whom he affectionately calls “Nanay Linda,” had a short photoshoot and even had some reels where they both did a Genshin Impact cosplay as Arataki Itto and she as Granny Oni.

“My Grandma cosplays Granny Oni while I cosplay Arataki Itto! Nanay Linda said that she appreciates you all for appreciating our Itto and Granny Oni photoshoot outputs. She said that this is her happiest moment with me,” he writes after posting one of their reels.

Seeing himself in the character

For those who aren’t familiar with Genshin Impact, the character Prince cosplays is Arataki Itto—an oni (Japanese demon) who, despite his good heart, somehow gets into a lot of trouble. Although he leads a gang with his right-hand woman, Kuki Shinobu, to bail him out, he holds Granny Oni in a special place in his heart. The ironic part is, she wasn’t an oni at all. She just took him in and cared for Itto as if he were her own—similar to how Nanay Linda was for Prince when he was growing up.

“I grew up with my grandmother, and I have stayed with her for a long time. I was constantly bullied, and I was a troubled boy growing up, but just like Granny Oni to Itto, she stood for me and showered me with love.”

The cosplay, he adds, was something he wanted to do as the story reflected the unconditional loveUnconditional LoveLoving a child fully regardless of grades, behavior, or achievements. Showing it through hugs, praise, and a willingness to forgive helps children feel secure and gives them the courage to that both grandmothers had for their grandchildren. Granny Oni served as emotional support for Itto, just like Nanay Linda did for Prince.

“I will always be proud of this cosplay, and I am so thankful that I was able to create this memory with my grandmother. I am so happy to show this to my community,” he writes. “The story of Granny Oni’s unconditional loveUnconditional LoveLoving a child fully regardless of grades, behavior, or achievements. Showing it through hugs, praise, and a willingness to forgive helps children feel secure and gives them the courage to for Arataki Itto will always be the reason why Itto will forever be my favorite Genshin Impact character.”

Grandparents have a different kind of love

While parents love their kids, grandparents provide a different kind of love. Unconditional, also, but in a way that they want nothing more to make every happy moment last. As health issues arise and times get more stressful and busier, grandparents try their best to offer the love and support to help their kids and their grandkids weather through the most stressful of times.

As September is the month that celebrates grandparents, many may soon realize that their beloved lolas and lolos may not have much time left. Whether it’s because of health issues or age, their love is what many kids and even parents remember fondly. Not only through the wisdom they’ve shared, but also through the many happy moments they’ve created.
