The Baby-Sitters Club Is Heading to the Stage as a Musical

The iconic book series is getting the musical treatment with its characters all grown up!

If you ever raced through a Baby-Sitters Club book before lights out, you’re in for a nostalgic treat — the beloved series is being reimagined as a musical.

Deadline reported that the series, written by Ann M. Martin, is being developed into a musical with the book written by Kate Wetherhead of The Devil Wears Prada and Mark Sonnenblick, known for his work on KPop Demon Hunters, providing the music and lyrics.

Anne Tippe, known for her work on Octet, will direct and choreograph the production.

Theatrical rights of the book series have been licensed to TWTheatricals, known for works that cater to a multigenerational audience. An exclusive industry presentation is scheduled for November 13 in New York, with its official premiere set for spring 2027.

From Bookstores to Broadway Dreams

Author Ann M. Martin confirmed the news on her Facebook page, sharing the Deadline article with fans.

“I’m excited to announce a new stage musical based on The Baby-Sitters Club,” Martin wrote, sharing Deadline’s report.

In the same Deadline article, Ann expressed her excitement about putting the series into a musical.

“I love musicals and am excited to see the adventures of Kristy, Claudia, Mary Anne, and Stacey come to life on stage. I’m humbled by the ongoing popularity of the series, and couldn’t be more thrilled by this news,” she said.

Set 12 years after the original club disbanded, the musical follows Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey—now in their mid-20s—as they reconnect and reflect on how their lives have changed.

Mark Sonnenblick told Deadline to expect some music inspiration from the ’80s and ’90s when BSC hits the stage.

“We’re just very excited for everyone to hang out with the club in Stoneybrook, whether it’s your first time or your five hundredth.”

What is The Baby-Sitters Club about?

The Baby-Sitters Club is a book series published by Scholastic from 1986 to 2000. It tells the story of middle school girls who formed their own local babysitting service.  The original members include Kristy, Mary Anne, Claudia, and Stacey, with new characters introduced throughout the years.

The books became a pop culture staple, spawning two TV series, a graphic novel adaptation, and a 1995 movie of the same name.

Nostalgia hits hard

For the moms today who spent their allowance getting the books, it’s an opportunity to relive the adventure. It’s also the perfect chance to share the magic with their daughters — and maybe even start a new tradition together.
