Bea Millan-Windorski in the Eyes of Her Mom Toni Millan

Miss Universe Philippines 2026 Bea Millan-Windorski’s mom Toni shares the story behind her daughter’s journey beyond the crown

More than a week after being crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2026, Bea Millan-Windorski continues to capture attention online and is already being considered one of the frontrunners for the upcoming Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico this November.

But behind the glamour, training, and growing public attention is one woman who witnessed every challenge, sacrifice, and breakthrough long before the crown — Bea’s mom, Toni Millan-Windorski.

During the victory press conference on May 10, Toni spoke with pageant site The Qrown Philippines about her daughter’s journey, the criticism surrounding her citizenship, and the kind of person Bea is away from the spotlight.

On encouraging her daughter to try pageantry

Unknown to many, it was Toni who first encouraged Bea to enter pageantry.

“She was doing some modeling and I thought pageants would help with her runway,” Toni shared.

What started as simple encouragement from a mother eventually opened doors that Bea never expected. Toni recalled signing her daughter up for local competitions, where she immediately showed promise by finishing as a semifinalist.

“She did it for two years, then she went to university. Later, I signed her up for Miss Earth,” she added.

That decision eventually led Bea to represent the Philippines in Miss Earth 2024, where she earned the elemental title of Water.

For many moms, parenting means recognizing a child’s potential even before they see it in themselves. Sometimes, all it takes is gentle encouragement and trust for children to discover new passions and opportunities.

“Bea is Filipino no matter what”

Toni also addressed criticism regarding Bea’s citizenship, firmly defending her daughter’s identity as a Filipina.

“You know, as the Philippine Constitution states, as long as one of your parents is Filipino and your birth is registered, my understanding is she was always a derivative of my citizenship,” Toni explained.

She shared that one of Bea’s mentors has a friend working at the Philippine consulate in Los Angeles to confirm her Filipino citizenship.

Toni also pointed out that many Filipinos born abroad proudly reconnect with their roots by representing the Philippines on the international stage.

She cited Catriona Gray as an example, whose Filipino heritage became part of her identity despite growing up overseas.

“There are a lot of delegates born overseas — whether in Canada or Great Britain — and they choose to compete for the Philippines,” Toni said.

“I think they bring another perspective of Filipinos because there are so many Filipinos in the diaspora who work overseas.”

“We cannot gatekeep who Filipinos are because we are everywhere.”

Her statement resonated with many modern Filipino families raising children in multicultural environments while still teaching them to embrace their heritage and identity.

Beyond the crown and pageant titles, Toni described Bea as hardworking, compassionate, and genuinely supportive of others.

During competitions, Bea would cheer for her fellow candidates whenever they received awards or recognition — a small but meaningful gesture that reflected her character offstage.

Toni also shared that Bea has remained close with many of her fellow candidates from Miss Earth, even attending the wedding of one of the contestants she bonded with during the competition.

“That’s part of being a pageant girl. You make a lot of friends,” Toni said.

“And it’s not just about the crown. One of the gifts is friendship.”

Even during the hectic days leading up to the Miss Universe Philippines coronation night, Toni remained every bit the caring mother. Upon learning Bea was beginning to feel sick, she immediately checked on her, brought her medicine, and reminded her to prioritize rest.

More importantly, Toni reassured her daughter that regardless of the outcome, she would always be proud of her.

It’s a parenting approach many moms today relate to — celebrating achievements while reminding children that their worth is never defined by titles or trophies.

A mother’s love remains constant

While Toni admitted that life has been overwhelming since Bea won the crown, one thing remains unchanged: her unwavering support for her daughter.

As Bea prepares to represent the Philippines on the Miss Universe stage this November, Toni continues to stand beside her not only as a proud mother, but also as someone who believed in her long before the public did.

And perhaps that’s what makes stories like theirs resonate with many families today. Behind every confident daughter is often a parent who offered encouragement, reassurance, and space to grow into the person they were meant to become.
