AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro Welcome Baby Boy Sonny

The Filipino-American singers marked Mother’s Day most unforgettably as they welcomed their first child together

Singer-songwriters AJ Rafael and Alyssa Navarro are officially parents. The couple welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Anderson “Sonny” June Rafael, on Mother’s Day.

Sharing the news on Instagram, AJ revealed that Sonny arrived on May 11 at 5:15 p.m. after what he described as a difficult delivery.

“Welcome to the world, Anderson ‘Sonny’ June Rafael,” he wrote. “We spent Mother’s Day in labor and our son was born on 5/11 at 5:15pm. He came a little early and we had a rough birth day that I’m sure we’ll share about sometime, but we are so thankful and relieved to be on the other side of it all with the most precious child we could’ve ever dreamed of.”

“We love you, Sonny Boy!!! You’ve already made our world a million times brighter,” he added.

Friends and fellow celebrities quickly filled the comments section with messages of love and congratulations, including TV host Iya Villania and rapper Ruby Ibarra.

In a follow-up post, AJ shared the story behind their son’s name.

“Anderson ‘Sonny’, June Rafael… June was chosen because my dad was called “Jun” for being a Junior. I truly believe they met up in heaven before our boy came down to join us in this world,” he explained.

“This moment of Alyssa telling me that my dad sent us a son will forever be burned into my brain. We chose Anderson/Sonny because ‘Rainbow Connection’ was playing on our push playlist when he was born. Our son was meant to bring light into this world.”

AJ also gave followers a glimpse of Alyssa’s first post-birth meal, joking that she wasted no time finally getting sushi again after pregnancy restrictions.

“First meal literally not an hour after giving birth,” he reposted.

In another heartfelt update, Alyssa admitted that the birth experience was “a bit traumatic” and said she is still processing everything that happened.
