Kids Get Free Train Rides Tomorrow

Free train rides on LRT-2 and MRT-3 await kids on November 4, a small gift for families during National Children’s Month

Here’s a little good news for Metro Manila families: free train rides are waiting for kids and LRT-2 and MRT-3 on Wednesday, Nov.4, 2026. Children and teens 17 and below can hop on both lines without paying a centavo.

The Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) and MRT-3 are leading this initiative as the country celebrates the 34th National Children’s Month, in support of the country’s Council for the Welfare of Children.

What Time Can Kids Ride Free on Nov. 4?

The free ride runs in two windows:

  • Morning: 7 am to 9 am
  • Evening: 5 pm to 7 pm

The morning window fits the school run, and the evening one suits the ride home. Trips outside the two windows follow the usual discounted student fares.

Why Can One Free Fare Mean So Much to Families

Any parent who has counted coins before payday knows how fast fares add up. With transport costs weighing on household budgets and allowances, one free ride is one less worry for the day. It helps whether your child is heading to school, tagging along on errands, or simply watching the city roll by.

Trains help in quieter ways, too. They skip the traffic, keep the commute affordable, and give students a steadier way to get to class.

How Can a Train Ride Become a Little History Lesson?

Tomorrow’s free fare covers LRT-2 and MRT-3 only, but LRT-1 has a treat of its own for curious little passengers. Its KasakaySayan project plays short voice-over trivia on selected rides, right after station announcements. The stories link station names and nearby places to Philippine heroes, historical events, and Manila’s heritage.

Think of its as storytime on rails. Your kids hear a quick tale, press their noses to the window, and realize the streets they pass every day hold pieces of the country’s past.

Why Does This Year’s Theme Matter?

The theme, “Manindigan! Tumugon at Kumalinga: Sa Batang Handa, Mas Ligtas and Bansa,” is about standing up for children, responding to their needs, and keeping them safe, especially during emergencies and disasters.

A free ride is a small gesture, but it carries a warm message: children belong in public spaces, and everyday services can be made easier for the families who rely on them.

So tomorrow, take the kids along, tap in with a smile, and enjoy the trip together. You may save a little, learn something new, and send off a few young Filipino who will one day help shape the country.
