Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical is slated to hit the Newport World Resorts stage in May 2027
For nearly four decades, singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid has provided the soundtrack to countless Filipino love stories. From anthems like “Nandito Ako” and “Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang” to songs like “Dito sa Puso Ko” and “Kailangan Kita,” his discography spans generations of family road trips, karaoke nights, and heart-to-heart moments.
Now, his timeless catalog is headed to the theater.

Full House Theater Company, in partnership with Newport World Resorts, Viva, The Philippine Star, and A-Team, officially announced Kailangan Kita: An Ogie Alcasid Musical, slated to open in May 2027.
The surprise reveal took place on Saturday, October 31, right after the closing curtain call of Bongga Ka Day: The Annie Batungbakal Musical.
A Sneak Peek at the Magic
Audience members were treated to a special medley of “Hanggang Ngayon,” “Dito sa Puso Ko,” and “Kailangan Kita,” performed by Ethan David, Sheena Belarmino, Poppert Bernadas, Tep Logmao, Mark Gil, Rapah Manalo, Stephen Viñas, Yna Arbiol, Beng Turiano, Jannah Baniasia, and Iya Villanueva.
Taking the stage to confirm the news, Ogie shared that he and his wife, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, will take part in the production.
“Excited na po kami. Ito po ay pitong taon naming pinaggugulan at pinag-isipan kung paano namin ipapalabas ito,” Ogie revealed, sharing that the concept has been seven years in the making.
The It’s Showtime host also acknowledged actor Aga Muhlach, who was in the audience. Muhlach originally starred alongside Claudine Barretto in the 2002 romance film Kailangan Kita, whose iconic theme song was written by Alcasid and performed by Gary Valenciano for the movie.

A Tale of Family, Dreams, and Rekindled Passion
Although full production details and casting are still under wraps, the narrative is familiar to many Filipinos, known for their love of music.
Theater Fans Manila reported that the story centers on a singer-songwriter father and his daughter. Having walked away from his musical ambitions long ago, the father discourages his daughter from chasing a creative path of her own. However, a spark reignites when he crosses paths with her music teacher—a connection that challenges his fears and inspires him to believe in both his daughter’s potential and his own unfinished dreams.
More than a jukebox musical celebrating local classics, Kailangan Kita looks to be a touching tribute, reconciling past regrets and letting the next generation find their voice. For millennial and Gen X parents who grew up hummed along to these melodies, it promises an opportunity to pass those memories down to their kids when the curtain rises in 2027.
