Stories on Family, Identity, and Growing Up: 12 Plays Featured in Teatro Panalo Festival

Building on the massive success of Cinepanalo, Puregold is now expanding its cultural footprint to champion live theater

Following the resounding success of Puregold’s Cinepanalo Film Festival, the company is expanding its advocacy for local storytellers by stepping into the vibrant world of theater. Puregold officially unveiled the Top 12 original straight plays and musicals selected for the inaugural Teatro Panalo Festival, set to take center stage in February 2027.

From an impressive pool of 373 submissions, the list was narrowed down to 26 finalists before the final 12 were chosen. Each finalist received a seed grant of Php 100,000 to support their production and talent fees. During the festival, two standout productions—one straight play and one musical—will be awarded the opportunity to be developed into full-length stage plays.

For Vincent de Jesus, acclaimed theater figure and Festival Director of Teatro Panalo, the platform is about far more than accolades. It is a vital ecosystem meant to champion playwrights while creating meaningful opportunities for the backstage crew and theater workers who bring these stories to life. He also praised all the writers who submitted their work, acknowledging the courage it takes to put one’s deeply personal creations forward for expert review.
