Ashanti and Nelly are Expecting Their First Child!

Ashanti announced that she is expecting her baby with Nelly via a short video on Instagram.

Ashanti is going to be a mom soon! The “Foolish” singer announced that she is expecting her baby with rapper Nelly. On Wednesday, April 17, Ashanti shared a video on Instagram with her mom asking how much time she needed, and then she answered “nine months.”

In an exclusive interview with Essence, Ashanti shared that not only is she expecting but that she and the “Hot In Here” rapper are engaged.

“This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation,” she told Essence. “Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

This will be Ashanti’s first child. Meanwhile, Nelly is already a father to two kids, Tre and Nana. He is also a parental figure to his nephew Shawn and niece Sydney after the passing of his sister Jackie Donahue to leukemia in March 2005.

In an interview in September 2023, the “Dilemma” singer confirmed that he and Ashanti are back together. Nelly said that reconciliation surprised both of them.

“It wasn’t anything that we planned. We both were pretty much doing what we do,” he explained on the Boss Moves with Rasheeda show. “But sometimes, being separate, you understand one another more. You could be like, ‘Well yo, let me exactly see maybe what they see.’ We all can be defensive sometimes in our own relationships. We know we [were] wrong but we going to stand on it, you know what I mean? But we [are] all a victim to that.”

Reports of pregnancy surfaced when the couple were spotted at the 11th Black and White Ball at the Four Seasons Hotel in December.

Ashanti, on top of being a Grammy awardee, is also an actress and CEO of Written Entertainment. Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Hayes Jr, is also a Grammy awardee and is currently promoting his merchandise called MoShine.
