AWKWAFINA joins the VA cast for Dreamworks’ Newest Movie!

AWKWAFINA will be joining Dreamworks’ Voice Acting Cast for the newest movie – The Bad Guys.

Dreamworks’ movies are always known for their family-friendly and witty humor. With that in mind, they cast American comedian and rapper AWKWAFINA for the role of Tech Spidey. A sharp-witted, genius hacker, and an amazing multi-tasker, the I.T. specialist arachnid puts her brain to work against codes deemed unbreakable. But what happens when she needs to deal with a new kind of code? That code that needs her to be one of the good guys.

A New Adaptation

Originally in the books, Tarantula was more of a sir. But when Aaron Blabey heard the suggestion of changing up the gender, he offered his support. Upon the switch, producer Rebecca Huntley received a warm surprise from the audience. She shares, “One of the surprising things was how parents responded to the fact that Ms. Tarantula was representing women and girls in S.T.E.M. She’s a cool, confident hacker, and to have audiences see her as a role model in that regard was wonderful.”

AWKWAFINA: Enjoying a character beyond the norm

When asked about her role, AWKWAFINA shared how she enjoyed playing a character who lived beyond the norm. She shares, “The Bad Guys are pretty much the villains of everything. They scare people out of restaurants, which I imagine would be great because you could get a table anywhere. As a group of friends, they do quite like each other. Because they’re such outcasts in the world, they relish in who they are.”

Besides playing a character beyond the norm, the knowledge of who her castmates were excited her. She intimates, “This is a stacked cast of brilliant actors, and I’m a huge fan of all my fellow Bad Guys. When I heard who was going to be in it, I was mind-blown.”

AWKWAFINA’s role: S.T.E.M girls represent!

A lot of times, shows or movies don’t really show cool girls in the S.T.E.M industry. In movies, most females in the S.T.E.M industry didn’t like social interaction. But AWKWAFINA’s role intends to change that. Dreamworks’ The Bad Guys, coming out this April 27, 2022, shares how easy it is to brand someone but how complex it is to live on the good side of the law or the bad side of the law.
