Express your Love for Filipino Culture Through This Campaign
Celebrate our Independence by experiencing the heart and soul of what is Filipino.
When we’re asked what makes us Filipino, you have to admit that we have a variety of answers for that. Some say it’s our food, like Adobo and some other recipes. Others, it’s our ability to speak Tagalog fluently. But, being Filipino can’t be restrained to just recipes and a single language. What about our other brothers and sisters who speak Hiligaynon, Waray, Cebuano, Ilokano, and other languages? They are Filipino also just like us!
“Dama Ko, Lahi Ko”: Experiencing Filipino Culture as a Melting Pot
When we were in school or when you’re tutoring your kids in Araling Panlipunan (Social Studies), we always mention that Philippine Culture is some sort of melting pot. But we can’t just mention or tell a culture which is what the Dama Ko, Lahi Ko campaign aims to do. By creating an online gallery where different creative Filipino minds all across the Philippines meet, you and your kids can experience the different parts of Filipino culture through them.
And to experience, we use the 5 different senses: sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch. We enjoy the sights of the Philippines through the sense of Paningin. We take a gastronomic adventure with the sense of Pang-Amoy and Panlasa as we venture through the different foods of the Philippines such as the Kape Barako and the different fruits. While we’re enjoying our Filipino foods, we can enjoy the local sounds of both OPM and tribal through the sense of Pandinig. Finally, we can take home a few cloth pieces ot enjoy the artistry and texture of the different Philippine loom styles.
Independence not only as one but as many
We cannot center our being Filipino just on one thing. The same way you tell your kids that they’re not just one thing or another. If you’re also hoping to expose your kids to Philippine culture without the threat of COVID-19, you can also take the opportunity to look through the Dama Ko, Lahi Ko Instagram and Website where various Filipino artisans will be proudly displaying their craft. Mabuhay Pilipinas!
