Enter if you dare

Disney’s Haunted Mansion begins at its gates. Gabbie (Rosario Dawson) and her son Travis (Chase W. Dillon) step inside the haunted mansion in New Orleans, realizing that ghosts lurk at every corner.

They decide to seek help from an unlikely group of experts to rid the residence of these spirits. This group includes Ben (LaKeith Stanfield), a paranormal tour guide and ghost-skeptic, Harriet (Tiffany Haddish), a local psychic, Bruce (Danny DeVito), a veteran historian, and Kent (Owen Wilson), a priest.

Together, they test their skills and try to identify the spirits responsible for the hauntings. In the process, they uncover the mansion’s deepest and darkest secrets. Along the way, they also discover more about themselves.

Why it’s okay to grieve

Besides the chills and thrills sure to take place throughout the film, Disney’s Haunted Mansion touches on the topic of grief. It shows that grieving is a natural and essential part of the healing process — especially when you lose someone you love. This loss can trigger a range of intense emotions, such as sadness, anger, and confusion. And it was evident in two particular characters: Ben and Travis.

Some of their scenes show that allowing ourselves to grieve helps us acknowledge the depth of our bond with someone who has passed. It’s through this process that we can gradually come to terms with the reality that they’re gone. It also allows us to find ways to cherish the memories we had with them!

Grieving provides us with an opportunity to honor our feelings, seek support from others, and gradually find acceptance. Eventually, it paves the way for healing and moving forward. All while still holding our loved one’s memory close to our hearts.
