Disney’s Splash Mountain Gets a New Name
The famous park ride will now be known as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. And it will open in late 2024.
Disney’s Splash Mountain gets a new name. The company announced that the famous ride will soon be called Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. This is based on the hit film The Princess and the Frog.
The new name was formally launched last week during the Essence Fest in New Orleans. The new ride will be based on Tiana’s journey of opening a restaurant in the 1920s.
The ride will open in late 2024 at Disney World and Disneyland.
Splash Mountain’s new name hopes to inspire
In a blog post last July 1, Carment Smith, Senior Vice President for Creative Development – Product/Content & Inclusive Strategies wrote that the team has been traveling back and forth to Louisiana for research. This is to make sure that the new ride will be as accurate as possible to the theme.
“From exploring the French Market and the bayou, to consulting with academics, chefs, musicians, and cultural institutions, Imagineers have received inspiration from all over the region and learned from local experts along the way.”
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on an adventure alongside Tiana, Naveen, and Louis the alligator as they celebrate Mardi Gras. This was first announced in 2020.
Splash Mountain originally opened in 1992. It was based on the 1946 movie Song of the South. However, it has drawn flak due to the racist and offensive depiction of people of color.
