DOH Kicks Off Vaccination Campaign for Infants in Taguig

The Department of Health, together with the World Health Organization and the Taguig Local Government, launched a campaign for the vaccination of infants.

The Department of Health kicked off its vaccination campaign for infants in Taguig City last November 7. The Vax-Baby-Vax Routine Catch-Up Immunization campaign was held at Lakeshore Hall, Brgy. Lower Bicutan.

The program’s aim is to vaccinate infants between 0-23 months to prevent them from vaccine-preventable diseases. The World Health Organization‘s Medical Officer of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases and Immunization, Dr. Robert Kezaala, attended and spoke about the importance of vaccines.

The Importance of Vaccination

In his speech, Dr. Kezaala highlighted the importance of vaccination in the Philippines and worldwide. “We need to build a culture of immunization and strong immunization program globally and here in the Philippines,” he said.

Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano reminded parents to trust the experts and be aware of the wrong information about vaccination.

(Taguig loves the youth and that’s why we should not set aside the importance of vaccines. Wrong information on vaccines should not discourage us. Thus, we should encourage our loved ones, neighbors, and members of the community on the importance of vaccines.)

Vaccination programs in Taguig

The Vax-Baby-Vax Routine Catch-Up Immunization campaign is the latest in Taguig City. In the past months, Taguig vaccinated a total of close to 10,000 children ages 5 to 17 years old as part of the “Pinalakas” vaccination campaign. The campaign also included teachers and non-personnel.

Moreover, the local government is visiting more schools to conduct vaccination for COVID-19 as part of the “Pinalakas” vaccination campaign, which is DOH’s Program to vaccinate more senior citizens and increase booster shots for the eligible population to 50% by bringing the vaccines to schools, marketplaces, and transportation terminals.
