Educational and Kid-Friendly Mobile Games

Mobile games appeal to on-the-go parents and kids while waiting in line. Here are some mobile games that kids will enjoy and learn from.

Mobile games gained their appeal among parents and kids alike; they were what some called the ultimate “time sink” – allowing people to pass the time while waiting for processes or meetings to start. Although many experts have called out the need for moderating screen time, some parents discovered the need to become flexible with those rules especially when things just take too long. Kids may have patience but some things just take so long that it’s downright ridiculous!

So what are some educational and kid-friendly mobile games? Here are some of our recommendations.

1. Sudoku

Originally distributed through booklets, Sudoku is still lauded to this day as a game that improves logical thinking. A 9×9 grid composed of smaller 9×9 grids wherein each row and column must contain numbers 1-9 without any repetitions, developers eventually turned it into a mobile game and players could select difficulties between easy, medium, and hard modes.

2. Twenty

A game of both speed and math, the goal of the game is to reach the multiple of 20 by combining matching numbers. However, the mobile game has a catch – there’s a limited amount of time before it adds another row of numbers and as the level draws out, some of the blocks even connect, making it difficult to break or match. The more 20s the player makes, the higher the points.

Luckily, kids can play this game without the internet.

3. Timpy Doctor Games for Kids

Raising or trying to encourage your kids to become a doctor? Timpy Doctor Games for Kids is a mobile app that introduces kids to different branches of medicine. From dentistry to even general medicine, kids get to see how to fix their boo-boos. In a way, the game also helps soothe our kids’ anxiety about going to the hospital because they get to see what the doctor does but with cuter characters!

4. Piano Kids – Music & Song

If we’re not ready to invest in a grand piano yet or don’t have the space for it, Piano Kids – Music & Song is a mobile game where kids get to play music. Besides, a lot of studies have been vouching and advocating how music encourages pattern recognition and critical thinking in kids. The mobile game also has several other mini-games that introduce various sounds.

5. Words Splash: Words Mega Fun

Parents are often concerned about how to improve their kids’ vocabularies. While reading books is the most ideal, lugging one around isn’t. With Words Splash: Words Mega Fun, parents don’t have to lug around any big books or worry if some foreign food sauce will stain the pages. Besides, it’s a spelling game with additional challenging mechanics that involve adjectives to better build our kids’ associations and ideas of things.

Mobile Games & Kids: Most Beneficial in Moderation

While everyone’s been against screen time, many forget that the benefits come best in moderation. Moderation means letting these kids play it for an hour or two — either extreme doesn’t work. Too much screen time reduces opportunities to develop their social skills. Banning screen time leaves them technologically illiterate and slower on the take to recognize patterns.

The best part about these selected mobile games is that some of them can be played without the internet and don’t need us to pay for our kids to fully enjoy the game. But don’t worry, we’ll be adding more! Don’t forget to follow our website for more!
