Geneva Cruz Reflects About Going Back To School
Geneva Cruz has enrolled in a distance learning curriculum to finish school, something she was not able to do due to her entertainment career
It’s not common to hear celebrities stopping their education because of their careers. But there are those who are determined to get an education despite taking time. Geneva Cruz is one of them as she returns to school to finish her education.
The former Smokey Mountain singer shared that she has enrolled in the distance learning system of a university in Manila and reflected on her decision to finish her degree.
Geneva Cruz’s inspiration: Her daughter London
Geneva Cruz was taking an AB General course at the University of Sto. Tomas when her career and pregnancy happened.
“It took me a long time to finally return to school and strive to complete college,” she wrote on Instagram on Thursday, August 15. “But life had a different plan for me, and that’s to become a mother first. I have no regrets because I have a beautiful son.”
Her daughter London however was her big push to return to get a degree she wrote. “I strongly believe in setting a positive example for my children, which drives me to dedicate time to pursuing my educational goals.”
Sharing the quote “When there’s a will, there’s a way,” Geneva said she believes that one can make time if they set their mind on it and now she’s doing so by finishing her education.
“I live to grow because there’s no age or judgment in personal growth as long as you keep pushing forward to finish what you start. Go after your goals—there’s no such thing as being too late!”
The support of her whole family
Geneva Cruz’s decision to finish school also has the support of her family, dedicating it to her late mom. She also thanked her good friend, singer Ronnie Liang for giving her that initial push about “those who choose to educate and elevate themselves.”
She ended her post by giving a reminder to students out there. “Don’t even consider your degree a pass or a way to a great life. The point is not that a degree is meaningless but that it should have great value or uphold something of great importance to you. People hire or do business with you based on your skills, attitude, and work ethic rather than just your degree.”
Many of Geneva’s followers on social media commented on her decision to finish school. Her cousin Sunshine Cruz said she knew Geneva could manage it. Sunshine herself returned to school in 2017 and graduated with a Psychology degree while juggling her showbiz career and being a mom.
Actor Dingdong Dantes shared clapping emojis. The Family Feud host, who stopped college due to his showbiz career earned his diploma in 2014 at West Negros University.
Other friends, such as fellow singer Jeffrey Hidalgo and Ronnie, also praised her decision to go back to school.
Returning to school for some people who were not able to finish may give them some hesitation. But if there’s one thing in Geneva’s story that reminds us is you have the choice and make it work because learning is never ending.
