History You Can Walk Through: Intramuros Opens to Public School Students

Starting January 27, public school students will get a chance to step out of their classrooms and into history—literally

For kids, learning history isn’t just about memorizing dates and names. It’s about seeing, walking through, and imagining the places where stories unfolded. That’s exactly what the Intramuros Administration (IA) hopes to offer through Pasyal Aral, a guided tour program designed especially for public school students.

Through the program, students will explore the iconic Walled City and experience Philippine history in a way that feels real, exciting, and memorable.

What Is Pasyal Aral?

Pasyal Aral is a flagship educational program of the Intramuros Administration, in partnership with local government units across Metro Manila and the Department of Education. The initiative brings public school students to key heritage sites inside Intramuros, guided by Department of Tourism–accredited tour guides who know how to make history come alive for young learners.

Instead of just reading about the past, students get to stand where it happened—asking questions, listening to stories, and seeing details they might otherwise miss in textbooks.

Where Will Students Go?

During the tour, students will visit some of Intramuros’ most important landmarks, including:

  • Fort Santiago
  • Baluarte de San Diego
  • Casa Manila Museum
  • Centro de Turismo Intramuros
  • Museo de Intramuros

Each stop is designed to help kids better understand the country’s history through visuals, stories, and hands-on learning moments.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Pasyal Aral is more than a field trip—it’s a chance for children to connect with history in a meaningful way. By walking through streets and buildings that witnessed key moments in the nation’s past, students gain a deeper appreciation of where they come from and why these stories still matter today.

More details about the Pasyal Aral program, including schedules and participating schools, will be shared on the Intramuros Administration’s official social media pages in the coming days.

For many kids, this could be the moment when history finally clicks—and that’s a lesson worth taking outside the classroom.
