How Moms Can Make Chic and Classy Looks With Crop Tops
Crop tops may not be the usual fashion piece for moms but there’s still a way to make a classy outfit with it.
Crop tops are one of the fashion pieces moms avoid because we’re expected to be more modest as married women. But there are days we want to wear one because it’s just too hot and we want to show the result of our workouts: the flattening of our postpartum bellies! So, here are some ways to style those crop tops that are perfect for moms:
1. Pair with high-waisted bottoms (e.g. skirt, jeans, trousers, etc.)
High-waisted pieces are making a comeback and it’s perfect with crop tops! If we’re not fond of showing too much skin, pair a crop top with a high-waisted bottom to cover up our bellies but emphasize our slender or shapely waists.
2. Add a belt to make everything look better
Elevate a look with cinch belts! Paired with a plain-looking, high-waisted bottom, add a cinch belt for more glitter and glam! Bonus glam points if the belt’s hardware matches our jewelry or the buckle matches our shoes!
3. Have them altered into more contemporary and empowering styles
Motherhood changes our bodies and sometimes, we abandon our beloved vintage pieces because it’s “out of fashion.” Bring them back by heading over to an alteration shop and re-styling them. Depending on the alterations, it can cost around P500 to transform them into a more contemporary piece like the empowering one-shoulder or the sultry off-shoulder.
4. Blazers make crop tops look more intelligent
Crop tops unfortunately come with the stigma of being too bold. But nowadays even Hollywood actors style crop tops with blazers. They usually go for something oversized or structured with shoulder pads to add more class to the crop top and trouser co-ord. Others may even go for the blazer vest or cape to give flair to the crop top and trouser combination.
5. Crop tops add more shape to the button-up polo.
Some moms wear their button-up polo shirts loosely but wearing a bustier-type or tube-type crop top adds texture and personality to an over-sized look. It creates a refined look if the oversized and loose top looks too messy for the occasion by cinching the loose fabrics together and letting it hug the body.
6. Cropped jeans with rubber shoes for a more relaxed look
Cropped jeans, culottes, and mom jeans are always there for a relaxed mom look. Mix it with our favorite sneakers and we have ourselves a casual ensemble!
Rule of thumb for wearing crop tops: one loose, one body-hugging
When styling crop tops, it’s always best to go with one body-hugging piece and one loose piece to create a singular flow when going around. Going with two loose pieces may make us look too relaxed whereas, two body-hugging pieces sound incredibly uncomfortable! What we love about crop tops is that they celebrate our more youthful side and encourage us to embrace our bodies. Mom fashion may be a conservative kind but there are ways to still be stylish even while doing so.
