How To Hold A Fun Halloween Party At Home

If the spooktacular holiday gets rained in, here are ways to hold a fun Halloween party at home.

Besides Christmas and their birthdays, the next holiday kids look forward to is Halloween. They get to dress up, harvest all the candy they want, and sometimes — watch spooky movies in the cinemas! Unfortunately, the rain may ruin all their plans, so we have to be prepared to throw a fun Halloween party at home. Here are some ideas to throw a spooktacular party at home!

1. Build a playlist with popular Halloween remixes

What’s a party without Halloween music? Using Spotify or whatever music streaming app we have, we can build a playlist that can shuffle all sorts of Halloween songs. Some songs include Hocus Pocus’ “Come Little Children” — the song Sarah Sanderson sang as she hypnotized the children. A new one on the airwaves includes Agatha All Along‘s “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road,” an equally heart-stopping one. Phantom of the Opera‘s classic namesake song is also a classic for Halloween playlists.

Because these songs became so popular, several YouTube artists covered them and so we have quite the selection!

2. Get a selection of Halloween-themed movies and series ready!

Watching movies or binging an entire series together has become the ultimate bonding time for families and friends ever since the pandemic. Netflix even has a watch party function so they can watch with friends and families online! So, move night is a must-have segment too for a Halloween party at home!

Some of the Halloween-themed movies include the traditional Hocus Pocus, The Craft and Corpse Bride. More modern ones may have a bit of fantasy mixed into them like Agatha All Along, Constantine, Beetlejuice, Spawn, and many others.

No guest shall go hungry at a halloween party at home!

3. Halloween treats are a must!

Restaurants are already rolling out their Halloween bundles so if the party’s got more than three, we can just grab something from there. But we can DIY them too! Teens might like a bit of Pumpkin Spice which is just a combination of spices and a bit of pumpkin (or roasted squash puree) to mix either in pie, cake, chocolate, or even coffee. Spooky-shaped brownies or blondies work wonders too!

Or for no-bake recipes, an Oreo cheesecake with a spooky expression on top may do the trick.

4. Join the costume fun!

Halloween is a holiday where both kids and parents can dress up in whatever they want and it’ll be okay! While some invest in costumes, others do what many call low-cost cosplay — this is when they take ordinary items out of their wardrobe and turn them into a costume. Who knows? With a bit of styling, maybe we’ll look like a character for the more recent Halloween-themed shows!

Add some spooky vibes to your halloween party at home

5. Get creative with the Halloween decor

Pumpkin baskets, candles, toy spiders, and glasses with multi-colored liquids are part of the spooky vibe so having them around the house would be a lot easier to clean than draping the house with fake cobwebs. What some families even do is that they use lamps with dimmer switches so they can adjust the mood of the home Halloween party.

If there’s a brownout, those LED candles are quite handy to have at home.

6. Have a selection of “potions”

Historically, witches made potions from household ingredients. They just sounded funny because the naming system Herbalist used was based on what they looked like. “Eye of Newt,” for example, is just a fancy name for mustard seed which we’ve been eating everytime we add a dollop of mustard to our food! While the dictionary of witchy names for their ingredients isn’t complete, we can maybe invent our own. The naming trend is usually citing a body part so maybe mango can be something like, “Maiden’s Heart” or something since it’s heart-shaped and sweet.

7. Table Top Games

Dungeons and Dragons and other games have various stories (or what they call “campaigns”) that might be fitting for the spooky holiday. Besides, table top games are perfect for an intimate Halloween home party. Kids get to dress up and role play their characters and get into all sorts of adventures. It’s like they’re playing video games but with no screens!

Throw the ultimate Halloween party at home in 2024!

Not everyone has a safe space to go Trick or Treating. Especially with the weather being unpredictable, we don’t want to risk our kids getting sick. However, we still want them to enjoy Halloween which will be quite a challenge if we’re not the artsy type. Decorating the home for a spooktacular celebration can still be a bonding activity, especially when we all agree on a theme. Feel free to explore on Pinterest or Instagram to find the pegs for the perfect Halloween party at home!
