Joseph The Dreamer Returns On Stage In July
Sam Concepcion plays the role of Joseph, while Gary Valenciano takes on the role of Jacob
Stories from the Bible have been staged on television and the theater for many years, and one of the most popular stories, Joseph the Dreamer, is returning this July on stage, as it celebrates 36 years on stage.
Who’s Taking On The Role?
Actor and singer Sam Concepcion returns to play Joseph, while Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano, who previously played the role, will play Jacob, Joseph’s father.
Paolo Valenciano will direct the production based on the play written by Freddie Santos and the cantata by Cam Florida.
The play had its run in 2020 and 2022. Other cast members have yet to be announced.
Joseph the Dreamer marks Sam’s return on stage after doing One More Chance and Once on This Island.
The Story of Joseph
Joseph’s story has been retold in different ways throughout the years. He is one of Jacob’s 12 sons and is considered his favorite.
He’s given the power to interpret dreams, and Jacob’s favoritism drives his other brothers into jealousy. When Joseph is given a technicolor coat, his brothers plot a plan to sell him into slavery in Egypt.
After being sold as a slave, Joseph was recognized by the Pharaoh after he interpreted that Egypt would go through seven years of crop prosperity and seven years of famine. He would be reunited with his family after several tests along the way.
The play tackles dynamics and struggles inside a family. It also highlights the flaws of the relationship between father and son and how faith, hope, and love are core in relationships.
Tickets for Joseph the Dreamer are now on sale through Ticket 2 Me with show dates on July 11-13 and 18-20 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Makati.
