Here’s What We Know About KPop Demon Hunters 2
Fully confirmed, one of Netflix’s biggest and most recent animated movies is coming out with a sequel: KPop Demon Hunters 2!
After watching KPop Demon Hunters, it’s no surprise that we can sing “Golden” or “How It’s Done” from memory. So, if we’re big fans of the animated mix of K-pop, K-drama, and action, it’s time to jump with joy: Sony and Netflix are in talks to produce the sequel, KPop Demon Hunters 2!
While there’s no release date yet, here’s what has been circulating about the upcoming movie.

Bringing to light Zoey’s and Mira’s backstory?
In an interview with Variety and Forbes, co-director Maggie Kang revealed that the first movie had built up so much potential for a backstory. With the first movie being much about the lead singer Rumi and how she struggled to accept herself, she wanted to shine the light also on the two girls, Zoey and Mira for KPop Demon Hunters 2.
“We’ve set up so much for potential backstory. Obviously, there are a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there’s only so much a movie can tell you in 85 minutes,” Maggie admitted.
While there were stories prepared for both Mira and Zoey, Maggie said the first movie wasn’t the right time to reveal them. It’s why we only see bits of Zoey’s and Mira’s back stories and hear a bit about them in “Golden.” Mira was labeled “the problem child” while Zoey’s parents fought over her during their divorce.
So, for the kids who just love Mira and Zoey, get ready for some tissues as their backstories come to life!
Will Jinu come back?
Let’s be honest, our kids who got into the movie are probably rooting for Jinu to come back. The romantic chemistry is real; the internet and the KPop Demon Hunter fans community truly believe that Rujinu, the ship or love team name, should become “canon” or official in the franchise.
It helps that even the voice actress of Rumi, Arden Cho, mentioned that she wanted HUNTR/X lead, Rumi, to save Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters 2.
As to whether the whole Saja Boys group will come back, we’re not sure. Regardless, they’ve already won hearts with chart toppers like “Your Idol” and “Soda Pop.”
Currently, Netflix owns the franchise.
After watching the movie, some may notice that the animation style and tech look quite familiar. For those who watched the Spider-Man movies involving Miles Morales, it’s no joke: Sony was the one who animated KPop Demon Hunters.
According to Fortune, in 2021, theaters were still reeling from the pandemic, and animated films faced unpredictable box-office returns. Sony struck a practical deal—a “direct-to-platform” agreement—offering the film to Netflix for immediate distribution and a guaranteed return, capped at around $20 million for Sony. However, Sony and Netflix are discussing a partnership for the second movie.
Because the streaming giant holds the rights, it’s probably why KPop Demon Hunters now has a sing-along version on Netflix.

KPop Demon Hunters 2 is coming!
While there’s no official release date for the film, we have to admit: we’re all psyched. We can’t help it; the songs are catchy and easy to dance to. “Takedown” and “Soda Pop” became one of the most popular songs to dance to, becoming TikTok challenges for both celebrity kids and parents alike. Famous P-pop group, SB19, was one of the few who jumped on the wagon for that one!
So, while we’re waiting, we can just play the songs on repeat. Or, maybe join our kids for the sing-along version on Netflix.
