Matthew Perry and His Father: The Resemblance Is Uncanny!
FRIENDS Actor, Matthew Perry, just dropped a rare photo of him with his dad and it’s truly like father, like son!
We all remember and love how Chandler from FRIENDS had his well-timed witty and humorous comebacks. While it was towards the end of the series that he and Monica (played by Courtney Cox) became parents, the 54-year-old actor is currently living and enjoying the quiet life with his own family! Recently, Matthew Perry just dropped a photo of him posing with his dad, 82-year-old John Bennett Perry. The resemblance is uncanny!
“Here is me, and my father John, both holding a beverage,” he writes as they pose together.
“Like Father, Like Son”
It seems that Matthew Perry was inspired to become an actor by his dad. John Bennett Perry, a former actor himself, also used to sing and model for certain brands! He has quite a decorated and diverse history in the entertainment industry with some of his credits including the 1967 musical, Now Is the Time for All Good Men. He also acted in a movie alongside his son in the 1997 Fools Rush In. But another fun FRIENDS fact: he appeared in the sitcom, playing the father of Rachel Green’s (played by Jennifer Anniston) boyfriend, Joshua.
The two appear to share the same humor, too. In an article from The Guardian, Matthew Perry received a book from his father when he first started out as an actor. The book, Acting With Style, also had a letter on one of the inside pages wherein his dad wrote, “Another generation shot to hell. Love, Dad.” Career-wise, Matthew Perry made the character Chandler become a household name to describe those with dry and witty humor.
Living with Two Fathers in His Life
Despite his hard journey as an actor, Matthew Perry also grew up with two dads who would invest in him in whatever way they could. While John Bennett Perry showed up for his acting career, Keith Morrison, who married Matthew’s mom Suzanne in 1981, also played a father figure role in his life and opened up in an interview with The People in 2020, sharing he [Matthew] was always the one “in the center of the room.”
But it’s here that we see the unspoken parenting that dads give their sons. While we often celebrate mothers and their active approach, dads tend to take a more passive stance. It’s only much later, like how Matthew Perry and his dad show, where we see how big an effect a father can have in a child’s life.
