Why Millennial Parents Are Excited For Usher at the Super Bowl
Usher is performing at the Super Bowl LVIII halftime show in February 2024!
It’s still four months before the Super Bowl and it’s already drumming up some excitement. The National Football League (NFL), Roc Music, and Apple Music announced in a press release that Grammy winner Usher is set to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in February.
In a statement, the NFL explained its decision to put the father of four as its main entertainer. “Usher is an icon whose music has left an indelible mark on the cultural landscape throughout his career, we couldn’t be more excited to have him headline this year’s Apple Music Super Bowl Halftime Show,” said Seth Dudowsky, NFL Head of Music. “We look forward to working with Usher, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to bring fans another Halftime Show for the history books.”
The “My Boo” hitmaker also said the performance was a tick off his bucket list.
“I can’t wait to bring the world a show unlike anything else they’ve seen from me before,” Usher said. “Thank you to the fans and everyone who made this opportunity happen. I’ll see you real soon.”
Why the Super Bowl Halftime is a Big Deal
The Super Bowl Halftime has been watched by millions of football fans around the world. Some of the artists who performed through the years include Justin Timberlake, Jennifer Lopez and Shakira, Michael Jackson, The Weeknd, Snoop Dog, and many more.
Rihanna’s performance in 2023 was one of the most-watched performances. She also revealed her pregnancy at that time.
This is not the first time Usher performed in the halftime. He previously appeared alongside the Black Eyed Peas in 2011 to sing “OMG.” This is the first time he will headline it as a solo artist.
Known for his songs such as “My Boo,” “Nice and Slow”, and “U Got It Bad,” Usher is currently doing a touring residency in Las Vegas.
In an interview, Usher admitted he had to keep the halftime performance announcement even from his kids.
“It’s been a lot to keep secrets from my own kids at home. A very, very close knit group of people knew and were really excited about the entire thing. Obviously a legacy. But more than anything the fact that this is the most grand stage to ever play on, man.”
Millennial parents are totally excited
If you are now a parent and grew up to Usher’s music, then you’ll definitely be looking forward to it. Although he has yet to announce who’ll possibly join him, Usher did hint in Apple Music News that there is a possible collaboration.
“If anything, I like (to) socially engage the world, you know what I’m saying? I like to hear who you think would be a great guest — great guest to complement this,” he said.
The Super Bowl is scheduled for February 2024.
