Newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines Dedicates Win to Mom
Miss Universe Philippines 2024 Chelsea Manalo’s mom Contessa sheds tears as her daughter wins the title over 52 other candidates
Bulacan’s Chelsea Manalo won the title of Miss Universe Philippines 2024 early Thursday, May 23 at the Mall of Asia Arena. But no one was happier to see Chelsea win than her mom Contessa, who was emotional as Michelle Dee placed the crown on Chelsea’s head.
“Sobrang saya,” Contessa told ABS-CBN’s Dyan Castillejo after the competition. “Matagal na niya pong pangarap… sabi niya, Mommy I’m ready.”
Contessa confirmed that she and her husband assisted their daughter throughout the pageant. She also has supported her daughter’s dream of being a beauty queen.
Chelsea meanwhile dedicated the win to her mom. “I feel so happy. Thank you so much to all those who believed in me. I love you mom, I love you dad. This is not just for me but for you. And all the people who supported me, I will do great. We will do good. I’m so excited to go to Mexico,” she told Dyan.
Chelsea’s background
Born to an American father and Filipina mother, Chelsea, who works as a model has joined several pageants including Miss World Philippines. According to Chelsea, she met her father before he passed away.
“I’m half American, half Filipino. My biological dad, I did see him when I was in the states before. My mom remarried. I grew up with my dad who treated me as his own. My biological dad passed away a few years ago,” she told ABS-CBN.
Chelsea’s stepfather was also present during coronation night.
