Francois Nars Made A Lipstick Collection Dedicated To His Super Chic Mom And We’re Here For It

“I always remember my mom being extremely beautiful and always getting a lot of attention from people, as they always noticed her in the street or anywhere we would go. She has always been a very gorgeous woman,” says François Nars of his muse and mother, Claudette.

Through the years, François Nars has always referred to his mother as his first and greatest muse. In the 70’s, Nars started recreating the looks he’d see on VOGUE and ELLE, using his mother as his personal model. “I would send her out to go into town shopping, go see her her friends and try to get comments from her friends to see what they thought. Usually people said, “Oh my God, you look so great!” he shared. Through this encouragement, Nars slowly started getting more into makeup.

The Claudette Collection

Inspired by the prints his mother wore in the 70’s, Nars created a collection of lipsticks, blushes and eyeshadows. ” I chose colors that I think look great on my mom, and the colors that she’s comfortable with and loves to wear. They’re very timeless colors that make her feel and look good,” he explains.

“I wore very little makeup,” shares Claudette, “My eyes lightly done, a touch of blush, some lip gloss. And I used to tell François all the time, “don’t put on too much!”.

And in this vein, there’s no doubt that Claudette is the perfect muse. And we see this in Nars’ choice of color — vintage-inspired yet modern and subtle enough to be worn by today’s woman.
