PHOTOS: Finn and BJ Albert Bond Over Golf Tournament

Every parent wants to find an activity that they can bond with their child. While we’re usually the ones who try to steer them to an activity, it’s more fulfilling when our kids are the ones who choose. So in the case of celebrity mom Nikki Gil, she was more than happy to post a photo of her husband, BJ Albert, and, her son, Finn, bonding over the latter’s first golf tournament.

“So happy he found a sport he enjoys—and dada @bj_albert couldn’t be happier that it’s golf,” Nikki cheerfully captioned.

The best part is Finn won as first runner-up in the golf tournament!

Golf: One of the usual sports for kids

Unlike other sports, golf has a miniature version which makes it fun for kids. In fact, a lot of restaurants once had miniature golf courses before the pandemic. Some of them were indoor courses and there were outdoor ones – it was a fun sport that showed kids how math could be applied.

The geometry applied, the right amount of energy to ensure the ball falls into the hole, and how many swings it will take to finish the course – these golfing concepts teach our kids about muscle control. It’s a combination of both a macro-motor skill and spatial reasoning.

Sports: Bringing parents and kids together

While we know sports empower our kids in all sorts of ways, it also helps parents bond with their kids also.

Besides teaching resilience, sports are also where we, as parents, learn more about our kids. We discover how they fare in the face of failure, what they like to do, and even the kind of people they see as rivals or friends. Experiences in sports may not be as big as other developmental milestones but it does affect their perspective on the world. Because they meet other people beyond their circle, it also exposes our kids to the other realities of life in a safe space.

And for BJ and Finn, golfing may just be one of the ways that they bond.
