Easier Outings with Kids? Here’s How the Pamilya Pass Works

President Marcos and his family led the Pamilya Pass 1+3, where a group of four can obtain tickets to ride the train together

Commuting in the metro can be quite stressful because of the traffic, causing tardiness to appointments and outings for many families. Because of this, some just stay home to lessen the hassle.

The Department of Transportation launched the Pamilya Pass 1+3 on June 1, where a group of four can ride the trains – MRT 3, LRT 2, and LRT 1 as a substitute for taking a car when going out. This program is also part of the Bagong Pilipinas initiative.

No less than President Bongbong Marcos, his wife, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and their children led the launch, wherein they boarded one of the trains at the MRT 3 station. The promo is every Sunday and will be up to June 2028.

Curious about the Pamilya Pass? Here’s what you need to know.

How to obtain the Pamilya Pass

  • One family member or one of the group who is traveling together should pay for a single (1) journey ticket at the farthest fare.
  • The other three members will get their magnetic passes, which they will present to security to enter the gate.
  • Fare for the promo will be posted every Sunday.

In a statement, President Marcos said that the Pamilya Pass will allow families to spend more time together going out without the hassle of transportation on Sundays.

A Big Help for Family Commuters

The program only started last June 1 and will be done every Sunday. Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon assured Filipinos that they are committed to providing faster transportation that is affordable.

The program is a small step in helping families who commute to get to their different destinations. If the program succeeds, this will encourage more commuters to keep using public transportation to decongest the streets of Manila.

The Pamilya Pass comes at a time when the government plans to fix roads in the metro. It may be only on Sundays for now, but it will be a boost for other transportation projects the government plans to push through in the future.
