Janine Gutierrez Teams Up With ‘Sunday Beauty Queen’ Filmmakers on Pilita Corrales Documentary
Actress Janine Gutierrez announced that she is producing alongside the team behind Sunday Beauty Queen a documentary on her grandmother, Pilita Corrales.
A documentary on Asia’s Queen of Songs Pilita Corrales is in the works! Pilita’s granddaughter, Janine Gutierrez, announced that she, Raymond Ang, and the tandem of Chuck Gutierrez and Baby Ruth Villarama are working on the project.
“I’ve always felt a deep responsibility to help preserve Mamita’s amazing legacy and I hope this project becomes another way for younger generations to learn about her story—not just as a legendary performer, but as a woman who defied expectations and truly paved the way,” Janine bares regarding the project.
According to the actress, the project is in early development and will be formally introduced at the Producer’s Network and Spotlight Asia in Cannes this month.
More than a documentary
Speaking to Vogue Philippines, Baby Ruth Villarama explained the documentary is more than about Pilita’s life.
“It’s a story of resilience, reinvention, and the enduring power of Filipino music. Pilita’s story is an inspiration, not just for aspiring artists, but for anyone who has ever dared to dream big,” she proudly presents.
Baby Ruth and Chuck have both worked on Sunday Beauty Queen, which has earned numerous awards both in the Philippines and internationally.
Aside from her singing career, Pilita has appeared in films and television, known for several roles in various sitcoms. She has also judged various talent competitions on television.
Pilita has a daughter, actress Jackie Lou Blanco, and a son actor Ramon Christopher – Janine’s father.
