This Web App Helps in Teaching Disaster Preparedness
The PlanSmart Ready to Build web app aims to help in rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
The Philippines has experienced so many natural calamities in the past years. These have destroyed infrastructures and agricultural crops, and affected thousands of lives. To prepare the Filipino people for any calamity even before it strikes, the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Institute of Volcanology together with other partners launched the PlanSmart Ready to Build. It’s a web app that aims to help in rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.
The PlanSmart Ready to Build web app is a project of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) together with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the World Bank.
What is the PlanSmart web app?
According to the announcement, PlanSmart Ready to Build “is [the] first of a series of PlanSmart tools that will be developed by DOST. It leverages the GeoRiskPH Integrated Platform and the Ready to Rebuild Program of the NDRRMC-OCD.”
The DOST says that the app will “systematically generate a Rehabilitation and Recovery Plan using science-based data, GeoRiskPH calculation tools, and putting results in a Pro-forma planning document template.”
In addition, the web app aims to help local government units in formulating comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Plans faster. It also gives them the opportunity to partner up with various stakeholders in decision-making when it comes to pre and post-disaster management.

How this app can help parents
The app is an opportunity for parents to equip themselves in preparing for disaster-related responses. Rehabilitation takes a long time for many. So even before any calamity happens, it will give families enough time to prepare by mobilizing with other stakeholders in your area.
Moreover, the app helps in seeking funds and includes a template that can inform LGUs and communities. It is also a platform for collaboration with everyone.
And the best part is you don’t have to pay. PlanSmart is a free app you can use. This is an opportunity to teach your communities and families disaster preparedness! Besides, it doesn’t have to happen for you to learn. But it helps to be ready when it strikes.
