5 Reasons Why Having Siblings Can Be Fun!

To celebrate National Siblings Day, we list reasons why having a brood of brothers and sisters can be fun!

Did you know that there’s a day that celebrates having siblings? That’s right—National Siblings Day exists and happened this April 10! While there are many instances we argue and fight with them, ultimately, we love our siblings.

Here are five reasons why having brothers and sisters can be happy and exciting.

National Siblings Day

1. You share many interests.

As someone who has four siblings (three brothers and a sister), there is no doubt I was heavily influenced by many of their interests. From watching 80s shows such as He-Man and The Masters of the Universe, Transformers, to loving the same ice cream flavors, and more, having something to talk about when you see each other after a long day of work and school is just so much fun!

2 You can share clothes with each other.

One of the perks of having siblings is sharing clothes (if you have the same size of course). If you have a date with your crush or those prom moments, they’ll be there to guide you. I had the opportunity to have my brothers and my sister tell me what to wear during the time I had my prom and they made sure I looked my best that night!

3. You have someone to lean on when things get tough.

It’s not just your mom or dad who will be there for you in your darkest and saddest moments. Siblings may or may not understand what you go through, but they’ll always be there during the highs and lows in life. They are also your cheerleaders and your support group.

Whether you need to cheer someone up or celebrate some wins in life, show them some love by planning a sibling’s day out like watching a movie or eating out! These simple gestures allow you to catch up and bond—just like when you were all growing up. It helps to just be with each other.

4. They act as your second parents or guardians.

When your parents are not around, chances are your titos, titas, or even grandparents would take over. as the authority figures in your life. But for some, their older siblings become their guardians or second parents. They may be strict at times but always know that it’s for your own good.

5. They’re always ready for an adventure with you.

Some would disagree with this statement, but siblings are some of the best companions you can have, especially since traveling is an adventure on its own. Imagine the back-and-forth discussions on whether to shop, see the museum, or go to the theme park.

There may be disagreements, yes, but they’re always ready to try something new with you and to bond with you.

Bottomline: There will always be a love-and-hate relationship between siblings

Just like parents, siblings will also have their share of disagreements. It’s not every day that you’ll agree on something. There will be moments when relationships are tested, but in the end, it’s always about communicating with one another and always listening to one another.

This National Siblings Day, make sure to give your siblings a big hug. Celebrate their existence and use the chance to bond over your favorite shows while catching up on the in-betweens of life!
