Remembering the Fallen Rescuers of the Bulacan Disaster Risk Management Office

Five rescuers from the Bulacan Disaster Risk Management Office died while on duty during Typhoon Karding. We will not forget their sacrifices.

After Typhoon Karding battered Luzon, people woke up on Monday, September 26, to devastating news. Five rescuers of the Bulacan Disaster Risk Management Office were found dead as they responded to rescue operations in San Miguel, Bulacan.

On Facebook, Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando identified the five members as George E. Agustin, Troy Justin P. Agustin, Marby B. Bartolome, Jerson L. Resurrecion, and Narciso Calayag Jr.

The five men were not just rescuers. They were brothers, comrades, husbands, and family.

They are family

Speaking to ABS-CBN, Liz Mungcal, Bulacan PDRRMO head, said as much as the death of their comrades devastated them, they are also proud of them.

“We are very proud because bayani sila sa puso namin, sa isip namin. Yung iba diyan 20 years, 15 years na responder.”

Mga anak ko sila. Pamilya kami sa Bulacan Rescue kaya napakasakit,” she added.

They will always be remembered

Ferdinar Calayag, brother of Narciso Calayag Jr. told the public to take care of themselves as rescuers do their job.

As the families of the five fallen Bulacan rescuers grieve, rescue teams from all over the country as well as politicians paid tribute to them for their service.

May the sacrifices of the five Bulacan rescuers not fall on deaf ears and be remembered that they did service to their community.
