When parents buy toys for their girls, they usually stick with dolls or house play sets. But with gender roles shifting around, people don’t know what kind of toys to gift their nieces and daughters anymore. Every parent wants their little girls to grow into strong empowered women yet, what toys teach them that? Here are some toys for girls that are beyond conventional dolls and house play sets.
1. Model Kits
Model kits may be a toy for older girls since they have tiny parts and need special equipment like airbrushes and rack clippers, although some are more accustomed to using a Swiss knife. A lot of people think that model kits are just for boys but girls can appreciate this toy, too, especially when they see it’s a female pilot who controls the robot.
Model kits are not limited to robots. There are also tanks, cars, and helicopters to name a few. Girls can paint it pink if they want and slap a Hello Kitty sticker on it if they want!
2. Clay Polymer Sets
Baking and molding clay is an expensive hobby, but it’s one that encourages creativity in little girls. Some female entrepreneurs even create jewelry out of clay. Others create sculptures and sell them on a commission basis. Clay, being a flexible material, encourages little girls to think outside of the box in making things.
3. Diorama Sets
House play sets are nice but toy diorama sets that create farm and jungle scenarios teach little girls about the environment and how everything is connected. It’s a fun way to encourage learning Science (or at least, promote a love for Biology) when the textbooks from school are getting too boring to read. Tool kits may be marketed for boys but girls need to know how to fix things around the house, too. Getting toy tool kits for little girls helps them learn the intricacies of simple machines which, by definition, are everywhere. Even their play grocery cart is considered a simple machine.

While toy dolls and cosmetic play sets are cute to give girls, we also want to educate and empower them that being a woman isn’t just about dolls and cosmetics. Sure, fashion is wonderful to look at but that’s only one aspect of life. Girls eventually turn into women and the world nowadays is slowly equalizing the competition between men and women.
