Vanessa Matsunaga Sunga: It’s A Shore Thing
Vanessa Matsunaga-Sunga and her family are making the most of their newfound slower paced life
Prior to 2020, mom, model and social media personality Vanessa Matsunaga-Sunga was leading a life on-the-go. As soon as the pandemic hit, she and her family had no choice but to take things slower—much slower. Events that once filled the weekly calendar were unceremoniously cancelled. Meetings migrated to online conferences. And the prospect of living by the beach for four straight months had suddenly become the next best option.
It was during the long period of lockdowns spent at the beach that Vanessa’s children learned how to swim and eat better. “Now they’re so comfortable in the water,” Vanessa shares, “And so confident that it worries us.” Without the temptation of snacks and a well-stocked pantry, the Sunga family got creative about their meals. They sourced local ingredients, taking advantage of seaside living and the fresh bounty it had to offer. “Knowing where our food comes from—the protein, fruits and veggies, has greatly impacted our health. We feel it in our bodies and minds,” she confirms. Vanessa also admits that clean eating has also inspired a more mindful lifestyle for the entire family.
But it hasn’t been all about living green and fresh for the Sunga brood. Like everyone else, they too have had their share of uncertainty, loss and anxiety. It was faith, however, that turned fear to love. “We learned to trust that God is in control of our lives and that hope and faith are the best weapons to counter the fear and uncertainties this pandemic has casted upon us,” she intimates.
