A mother’s love is a powerful force that knows no bounds. It’s unconditional, selfless, and
unwavering, and it’s present through the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, and the highs and lows of
life. To celebrate and commemorate this beautiful kind of love, and to close off a month that celebrates mothers all over the world, Modern Parenting brings you heartfelt letters from three moms to their children — one written by Sunshine Cruz.

Sunshine Cruz with her daughters

To My Dearest Angelina, Samantha and, Chesca

Surprise! You girls know Mom’s not comfortable writing letters. My love language has always been cooking your favorite pasta and French toast or giving presents once in a while. But this chance to say my thoughts and how grateful I am for you three is a privilege not given to many.

Angelina, I am blessed to have a daughter like you.

You are the best ate to your siblings. You’ve always been patient and understanding with your kulit sisters and you are also the best second mom to Sparkle and Lily. I’m really lucky to have a stylish daughter who teaches me to invest in classic but sometimes pricey pieces. No regrets though. I always trust your taste. Thank you for being that person I can always count on. You give the best advice to Mommy. I appreciate that you are not just my daughter, but also a best friend who lends an ear when I need someone to talk to. I am so proud of you, Angelina, and I am grateful every day that you are my firstborn.

Sam, you light up any room you walk into with your presence,

Your smile and your laughter. You have always been the sweetest, always so gracious and friendly. You have always been the Ms. Congeniality of this family. You are fun to be with, that’s why it’s no surprise that you have lots of friends who always want to be with you. Home is different when you are away, Sam. It feels lonely. They say middle children are always problematic, but not you. You are a dream and I appreciate that you always listen to my reminders and advice, even if I keep repeating myself. Thank you for your love, trust, and respect. I am always here for you to guide you every step of the way.

Chesca, the baby of the bunch.

We’ve been through a lot and to this day, I do not regret the things I did to protect you. You deserve nothing but the best and I hope that I am able to feel how important you are to me each and everyday. Keep shining, anak. I am so proud of you for being who you are. I love that you are tough and outspoken. I guess you got it from your mom. Time really flies and in December, you are turning 18.

It makes me sentimental to know that all my kids are not babies anymore. But remember, you will always be my baby girl and I am always so proud of you, my bunso.

To my favorite girls,

Know that I will be here for the three of you for as long as I have breath in my lungs. Your goals are
my goals. And your happiness is also my happiness. You are my life, my inspiration to work harder and do better. You girls inspire me to be the best version of myself. Every opportunity that I have to be with you is always such a blessing and it is so priceless. Being your mom is life’s greatest honor and I am so proud of you, my three beautiful princesses, Angelina, Sam, and Chesca. I love you with all my heart.

Yours forever,
Mommy
