The Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon film When I Met You In Tokyo, Piolo Pascual’s horror movie Mallari, and the historical film GOMBURZA are among those chosen to be part of Metro Manila Film Festival 2023.
Breaking the tradition of eight films, the Metro Manila Film Festival Selection Committee announced that ten films will be screened in December during the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023.
On Tuesday, October 17, the selection committee announced the six other films joining the festival. They are: When I Met You in Tokyo, starring Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon, Becky and Badette, starring Pokwang and Eugene Domingo, Mallari which is top billed by Piolo Pascual, Firefly, starring Alessandra de Rossi and Cherry Pie Picache, Broken Hearts Trip starring Christian Bables, and GOMBURZA starring Dante Rivero, Enchong Dee, and Cedrick Juan.
The six films join the previous films announced last July. These are A Mother’s Story, Rewind, KAMPON, where Zeinab Harake makes her debut as an actress, and Penduko. A total of 30 entries were submitted. Moreover, they were selected on the following criteria: artistic excellence (40%), commercial appeal (40%), Filipino cultural value (10%), and global appeal (10%).
An Exciting Film Festival
Metro Manila Film Festival Concurrent Chairman Atty. Don Artes said the film festival is something to look forward to this year.
“Ang 10 na napiling pelikula ay talagang napakagaganda. Ito rin ay base sa aming napanood na trailers. At sa actors at actresses na bumuo ng mga pelikula na ito,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, the CAMANAVA area – Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Valenzuela — will host the annual Parade of Stars happening on December 16.
The Gabi ng Parangal, on the other hand, is scheduled for December 27.
The 49th Metro Manila Film Festival happens from December 25, 2023 to January 7, 2024.
