GCash Shows Us Where We’d Be Without E-Wallets

GCash has always been there to make online transactions easier—which made building a business during the pandemic possible.

The pandemic forced us to learn how to use e-wallets and become more confident with online transactions. But not all businesses translated their services into something online, leading to many breadwinners losing their jobs. With a bank account slowly becoming empty, how does one get up? That’s the story GCash shares through Cocoy, a bartender who found success through the virtual wallet.

How the money keeps flowing online

When buying things from Facebook Marketplace, Shopee, or Lazada, e-wallets such as GCash eventually became our best friend. We’ve done what Cocoy has done—buying things online using GCash to shield our personal bank accounts but also, to make investments which Cocoy did via GLoan. He started his thriving business: The Bike Coffee Business in Cagayan de Oro. All he needed was a bit of paperwork to fill up then, a timetable on how he decided to pay it off.

It was also simpler to apply for an e-wallet. All it takes is one government ID. The frustration of going through the bank, not to mention all the horror stories of being scammed and hacked by those who claimed to come from said banks, made us realize that GCash allows us to spend safely but grow financially on our own terms, too.

Besides, many service providers use GCash nowadays. Freelancers, small businesses, and even groceries now use GCash to make paying so much more convenient for their customers.

We all have our experiences with GCash—from paying our kids’ tutors and tuition fees to receiving money to sustain our businesses. E-wallets became a necessity, not just to protect our existing bank accounts but to make sure the world keeps on moving as well. The best part is, it just takes a few buttons instead of the usual paperwork. Cocoy’s GCash story may be common but, it’s one that relates to many of us who probably can’t imagine life without GCash.
