5 Unique Plush Toys to Give as Gifts to Kids

Every kid has a plush toy as their cuddle buddy!

When weaning kids off co-sleeping, some parents give their kids stuffed toys to help them get used to sleeping on their own beds. It curbs their loneliness and clinginess, but not everyone wants a bear or a doll (especially if they’ve just watched Chuckie and Annabelle!) as a sleeping buddy. Others even have their toys commissioned by small-time crochet artists. So, here are other plush toys that kids might appreciate.

1. The Street Food Plush Toys

Kwek-kwek, Isaw, Skrambol — these unique plushies are easily found on Shopee and Instagram. Takaw Toys, a local brand, turns beloved street foods into huggable stuffed toys. It’s certainly more unique than the usual bears or rabbits. Also, being Filipino-themed makes it easier to incorporate the toy in our decor if our house’s interior is Modern Filipino.

2. Pokémon

Especially for kids who are Pokéfanatics but can’t play the game, they can still enjoy the franchise with stuffed toys. Many hobby shops like Long Live Play, Comic Alley, and even the annual Toy Convention held usually in Mega Mall or SMX Mall of Asia sell a lot of these Pokémon-themed plush toys.

3. Snack-Themed

Some plush toys even come in snack themes! There’s avocado, the viral TikTok boba or milkshake stuffed toy, and many other snacks that kids can enjoy as a sleeping buddy. Animal-themed ones usually have extra furs to simulate the real animal, but if our kids have dust allergies, these “fur-less” plushies are a suitable alternative. These are usually available in Gift Factory or Tickles.

4. Reversible Plush Toys

The most commonly seen ones on Facebook and Instagram reels are the reversible octopi. Not only are they small cuddle buddies, but they also help kids communicate their feelings better. They come in cat forms, too. And they’re available on Shopee or Lazada.

5. Weighted and Floppy

Weighted stuffed toys have three functions: a cuddle buddy, a pillow, and decor for the couch. They usually come in different animal shapes, including dinosaurs and mammals. And if kids are still in the dinosaur phase, a plush T-Rex might look better than the realistic plastic ones commonly used in dioramas.

Plush toys keep kids company when they sleep!

Especially when weaning kids off co-sleeping, it can be a bit difficult because they’re used to sleeping with something or someone next to them. But when we’re teaching them to be independent, these can help facilitate that. Although it’ll be hard for us to accept being replaced by a toy, the kids need to learn how to sleep on their own beds especially when they get too big to co-sleep with us!
