From the Editor: A High Five to the Future of Family

The 100 List of 2025 shines the spotlight on families and their insights about the future of their families while highlighting modern family Mikael Daez, Megan Young, and their son, Leon, as they adjust to their new set-up as a party of 3

One of the most beautiful parts about having six kids is being exposed to so many families who parent in ways completely different from mine. Over the years—and even more so today—I’ve been fortunately introduced to countless ideas, resources, and perspectives that forced me to pause, reflect, and rethink. As I write this message, it hit me: the mother I am today is a sum of every experience, every influence, every lesson learned, and an undeniable desire to do better every single time life gives me the chance.

This year, in particular, has taken me on the wildest ride—full of twists, turns, and the most unexpected surprises. It feels surreal that we’re closing out the year, and truthfully, I’m ready for it. There is so much to look forward to in 2026: new beginnings, fresh perspectives, and the space to create things that truly matter. As a storyteller and natural shepherd, nothing excites me more than building, innovating, and bringing people together.

This issue dives into the future of family— the changes we can no longer ignore, the trends we’re challenged to discern, and the growth and transformation that inevitably come with the times.

How Parents Are Future-proofing Their Parenting Game

In our Real Talk section, we catch up with the Baby Bunch moms from our maiden cover five years ago, and see how their kids—and they themselves—have blossomed.

We sit down with Cris Gordon, an American children’s book author and brand strategist, to explore how the “idea” of motherhood continues to evolve. We also tap experts on AI, fintech, and metabolic health—topics every parent should at least be familiar with if we want to stay future-ready. The dads of the Legendaddy podcast share valuable insights on the realities of fatherhood that often go unnoticed. And of course, we take a closer look at what it really means to build and nurture an unconventional family setup today.

Our cover stars are no strangers to most of you, but they are new to the parenting game. What’s remarkable about Megan Young and Mikael Daez is how they’re navigating this unfamiliar territory with such intentionality, confidence, and grace. The more time I spend with young families, the more I see
how thoughtfully they harness technology—gathering information, doing the research, and figuring out what truly works for them. Find out how Megan and Mikael are raising Leon and adjusting to their new setup as a party of three.

Modern Parenting turned five this year. What started as a pandemic idea—one that held our hands through both the best and hardest moments—has grown into a platform that connects parents and nurtures a community.

And—what is an anniversary issue without Modern Parenting’s The 100 List? Now on its fifth year, meet the parents whose voices and stories are inspiring a new generation—those who continue to shape the way we think about family, the future, and the kind of legacy we hope to leave behind.

What The Future Has In Store

Looking ahead, I am hopeful and excited. Modern Parenting has been welcomed with open arms by families, experts, advertisers, contributors, partners, and the entire parenting community—and for that, we are deeply grateful. Reaching this five-year milestone is something we proudly share with all of you.

Some of you might be wondering, what’s next? Well, like the adage goes, “Parenting doesn’t come with a finish line—it grows as we grow and as our kids grow.” And just as parenting evolves with every season, so must we. Modern Parenting is entering a new chapter—one shaped by fresh perspectives, a reinvigorated purpose, and a deeper commitment to serve today’s families in ways that feel both timely and timeless. We carry with us the same heart that started it all… only now, with a renewed vision, bolder ideas, and an exciting transformation on the horizon for the future of family!
