Family-Friendly Movies To Watch For National Women’s Month 2026

Here are some movies the family can watch during National Women’s Month 2026

March has always been celebrated as National Women’s Month. And while we can talk to our kids about all the women-exclusive experiences, they tend to let it go in one ear and out the other. So sometimes, it might be better to just show them a movie and hope it sticks. The best part is, these are easily found on streaming platforms like Amazon Prime, Hulu, and the usual Netflix. Here are some family-friendly movies to watch during National Women’s Month 2026:

Anastasia (1997)

Okay, it’s old, but hear us out: Anastasia is not your typical princess movie. While yes, there is romance, much of the movie is about Anastasia finding her family post-revolution Russia. She starts as an amnesiac named Anya as she enlists the help of two men, Vlad and Dimitri, to help her find her way home. However, she does much of the decision-making and even takes on the man who destroyed her family, the evil monk Rasputin.

What Women Want (2000)

A classic romantic comedy, a Mel Gibson film that tackles basically the age-old problem, “What do women really want?” The best part is, it’s done from the viewpoint of a man, which probably would make it easier to relate to for moms who have sons or have husbands or dads who struggle to understand how women function.

Howl’s Moving Castle (2004)

Studio Ghibli somehow always managed to write good, strong female characters. In this particular case, it’s Sophie who is cursed by a witch and enlists the help of the wizard Howl to break the spell. What makes Sophie interesting is that she’s just your typical human going up against magic. However, she outwits and restores herself while helping Howl in the process.

Interesting trivia about the movie: according to a book written by film critics Colin Odell and Michelle Le Blanc, Hayao Miyazaki wrote Howl’s Moving Castle as a way to express his “rage about the US’s invasion of Iraq in 2003.”

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)

What happens when a single pair of pants fits five girls of various body sizes? That’s answered here in the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Five best friends find a pair of pants that seemingly fit all of them despite their different body shapes. The pants then serve as their link to one another as they each share anecdotes of their summer vacation.

No Reservations (2007)

Catherine Zeta Jones plays Kate Armstrong, the head chef of a trending restaurant. Unfortunately, her temper makes her difficult to work with, and she is forced to work with sous Chef Nick Palmer (played by Aaron Eckhart). Throughout the story, she learns to bring down the walls that she’s built while navigating the tragedy of losing her sister.

BumbleBee (or Transformers: Bumblebee) (2018)

For those who want some sci-fi, Bumblebee might just be it. Lovable Autobot Bumblebee finds itself on Earth and is discovered by 18-year-old Charlie (played by Hailee Steinfeld) while investigating the planet. It’s a movie that shows how daughters also cope with the grief of losing their father while also keeping things exciting with all the action going down.

Turning Red (2022)

More for younger girls, Turning Red is a coming-of-age movie that maybe most girls can relate to. 13-year-old Mei discovers her ability to transform into a Red Panda, but also discovers the burden of keeping one. The movie tackles a lot about mother-daughter relationships and also the many changes that happen to women.

Why These Movies for Women’s Month

During Women’s Month, we always look for movies that are heavily centric on women’s themes. But that’s probably why it tends to complicate things. Because it focuses on an exclusive experience, many tend to struggle to make heads or tails of it.

That’s why some of the movies in this list are not directly about women. But they do showcase women in everyday situations, or at least how they respond in a crisis. They show that women, no matter how plain or ordinary looking, have something to offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Best places to check include Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, and maybe Disney+.

While there’s no hard criteria to follow, the most important aspects include: 1) women are not just a side character, 2) they have their own character development, and 3) they’re not just a plot device for the male character.

They always will. The thing is, we’re pretty sure you’re tired of watching those repeatedly. We’re sure that’s the one thing you didn’t need to memorize.

Actually, they can. The movies we picked may have women as the main character but they don’t put down the men. In fact, they often have their own development too!
