Beyond the Finish Line: Why Community Matters for Growing Families

Here’s how RLC Residences’ Raising Little Champions brings families closer to one another

Watching kids run toward a finish line hits differently as a parent. Beyond the training paying off and the medals, it’s about who’s cheering from the sidelines, who trained with them, and who they get to celebrate with after. And at the recent IRONKIDS Davao 2026, that truth felt especially clear.

The spirit of competition was definitely there. But the community’s culture shone through—the kind that was filled with support and belonging.

Where Sportsmanship Becomes Community

At IRONKIDS Davao 2026, the finish line wasn’t the only thing families were chasing. For parents like Rey Ko, whose sons Gavin and Greyson Ko competed under the RLC Residences Davao athletes, the race taught them a lesson of resilience: confidence-building under pressure, discipline formed through repetition, and the choice to show up for themselves and for something bigger.

“As parents, we are very proud of them,” Rey shares, “especially as Davaoeños representing the RLC Residences Davao athletes.”

Gavin, who placed 18th in the 9-10 years old category, clearly enjoyed himself. “Davao is very clean and safe. I really like the festivals, how supportive the people are, and the food is very yummy.”

Maridel Takei, the mom of Ami, who placed 7th in the 9-10 years old category, echoes the same sentiment. “To develop discipline, perseverance, and determination—these are important for their future. Especially for us women, we need to be strong. If you love what you’re doing, you’ll want to achieve something bigger.”

But numbers aren’t always the story. Some just enjoy the spirit of it. The adrenaline of cheering and nerves under the blazing heat can bring a lot of families together. Like for Yne Pablo, mother of Xyrene Pablo, perspective keeps everything grounded.

“I always tell her, every race is an experience—it doesn’t have to be about winning.”

Sports As A Family Effort

At IRONKIDS Davao 2026, training became the opportunity families needed to bond.

While Fatima’s sons, Amir and Cyrus, were no strangers to triathlons, they shared their love with their mother. Because for Fatima, training for an intense competition would become a family bonding. What used to be separate schedules turned into shared routines—swims, bike sessions, runs, all aligned like a family rhythm.

“Everything just comes easy,” she added. “What I like about this is that the two of them really support me as much as I support them.”

For Rey Ko, whose sons Gavin and Greyson Ko competed under RLC Residences Davao, the shift was just as clear.

“As a family, we became closer. We met new friends, we always support our child’s training, and we became stronger as a family,” she shared.

Building Active Communities Where Families Grow Stronger

At the core of RLC Residences is a simple but lasting idea: a home should support not just where families live, but how they live.

Most members of the RLC Residences Junior Tri-Team are residents themselves, giving them access to environments designed for active, healthy lifestyles right where they live. In Metro Manila, families regularly join in-house training sessions at The Trion Towers in Bonifacio Global City, guided by coaches Ronald Molit and Alexander Martin.

For families based in the provinces, training continues through remote coaching and performance monitoring, keeping young athletes closely connected to coaches Molit and Martin and to the program, no matter where they are.

Through Raising Little Champions and its ongoing partnership with IRONKIDS, RLC Residences continues to build communities where activity is part of everyday life. From thoughtfully planned amenities to community-driven programs, these spaces encourage families to move together, grow together, and stay connected beyond their front doors.
