There is no doubt that Filipinos are world-class when it comes to singing. Many have made their mark on the international stage, including Sofronio Vasquez III, who won The Voice in the US under coach Michael Bublé.
Filipino singers have also joined the The Voice franchise in different countries, and now, another Pinay is making waves in the Land Down Under: Jeramie Sanico Heitmann.
Who is Jeramie Sanico Heitmann?
Jeramie is no stranger to singing competitions. Before moving to Australia with her family, she competed in Tawag ng Tanghalan, the singing competition segment of It’s Showtime.
She made it to the semi-finals but eventually had to step away from the competition for personal reasons.
Jeramie later relocated to Australia with her husband, where they are now raising their two children. Years after her Tawag ng Tanghalan stint, her name once again made its way online after her blind audition for The Voice Australia aired.
For her performance, Jeramie sang Celine Dion’s “Because You Loved Me,” earning a four-chair turn from the coaches.
The moment became even more meaningful because her father had flown to Australia to watch her perform.
Richard Marx, whom Jeramie eventually chose as her coach, noted that the Diane Warren-penned song was not simply a love song for her. It was also a song she dedicated to her dad.

Taking it all in
Since her blind audition aired, Jeramie has been sharing updates with her family and followers on social media. She has also opened up about dealing with criticism, something she says she has experienced before.
In one Facebook post, she wrote about learning how to deal with bashers over the years.
“I’ve been well trained for the past decade on how to handle bashers.”
She went on to remind her followers not to let other people’s opinions drown out their own voice.
“Filter the noise. You don’t have to listen to all the voices around you,” she wrote.
Jeramie also shared behind-the-scenes moments from her The Voice Australia journey and acknowledged the conversations happening about her online.
She said she was grateful to those checking in on her but added that negativity no longer bothers her as much as it did a decade ago.
“I have experienced all of this 10 years ago except now my skin has gone thicker haha,” she wrote.
Daddy’s girl
One of the most touching parts of Jeramie’s The Voice journey has been having her father by her side.
In another post, she shared how her dad decided to fly to Australia to support her during the auditions. She said she initially did not expect him to make the trip, but after she called him and he secured his visa, he was able to come.
“Even though he had a lot of things still to get done there, he gave it all up to support his daughter once again,” she shared.
Jeramie said she had not seen her father for more than two years before the audition.
“Two days before the Blinds he arrived in Australia. It was such a surreal moment, and the rest was history,” she wrote.
A new beginning
Since her Tawag ng Tanghalan days, Jeramie had not joined another singing competition. In Australia, she continued singing mainly through church performances.
That made The Voice Australia feel like a fresh start.
“Coming to Australia, I know that I’m gonna have to start all over again when it comes to singing, but I didn’t expect that it will lead me here,” she shared.
Jeramie also reflected on how far she had come—from growing up in the Philippines with a dream of singing to standing on The Voice stage in Australia.
“Coming from a humble life in the Philippines, who would have thought that a little girl born with a big dream will be able to step in The Voice Stage,” she wrote.
But for Jeramie, winning is not the only reason she joined the competition. Her faith remains at the heart of her journey.
“My goal in joining isn’t just to win, but to let God shine through it all,” she said. “Every melody, every lyric, I want God to be known as the main source of everything. Without Him, I am nothing.”
She ended her message by expressing gratitude for wherever the experience may take her.
“Wherever this journey may lead me, I am already sooo grateful. I am truly humbled and honored. It was God all along, and tonight, I’m giving it all back to Him.”

Just the start of something new
Whether or not Jeramie advances to the next round, her The Voice Australia journey is already a reminder that starting over is always possible.
She may not have been able to continue her singing journey in the Philippines after Tawag ng Tanghalan, but years later, she found herself on another big stage—with her husband, children, and family cheering her on.
And perhaps that’s what makes her story especially inspiring for parents and families: dreams don’t necessarily disappear when life takes an unexpected turn.
Sometimes, they simply wait for the right time to be pursued again.
Because dreams have no expiration date.
