Brace Yourselves, Kids: The New A Minecraft Movie is Coming!

Looks like our kids’ birthday presents came early! Here comes “A Minecraft Movie”!

Considering how Minecraft and Roblox made such a big impact on our kids’ lives, it’s no surprise that the sandbox game would eventually come out with a movie. With the movie known as “A Minecraft Movie” now in the works, there are a lot of questions we’re sure parents have. What’s the plotline? Isn’t Minecraft just a building game? Most of all, someone can make a movie out of that?

The kids will only have one answer to all those questions: yes.

Minecraft: A Sandbox Game Turned Realm

It’s interesting how an 8-bit video game that came out in 2011 eventually became a necessity in our kids’ lives. Minecraft was a sandbox game; it only had one purpose: to build bases and worlds. While the game had its own storyline, most players enjoyed the building mechanics of the game. It would even introduce various materials such as wood, glass, obsidian, and the like to challenge players to manage their resources properly.

Now, gamers who have played a lot of similar video games know what to do. But for the pandemic generation kids, this was their world. When the windows and doors shut in fear of COVID-19, they needed a place to experiment. Minecraft so happened to be the answer. And for parents, it was convenient. It was like LEGO but on a digital platform, reducing the need to clean and step on stray parts.

Because of the game’s flexibility, it even became the favorite game of many streamers. Pewdiepie, a famous YouTube streamer now dad, became popular for playing Minecraft.

What We Know So Far About A Minecraft Movie

Apparently, the movie was teased last year with it being live-action, much to the mixed reception of both players and kids alike. Some fans said that seeing a “live-action” would be refreshing due to the many pre-existing fan-made Minecraft movies and shorts. Others weren’t too keen on it, seeing how other live-action movies failed to live up to their animated counterparts.

But the actors they’ve selected are no new names in the kids’ movie genre. Jack Black, the voice behind Po from Kung Fu Panda, is reportedly playing Minecraft’s protagonist Steve. Jason Momoa was part of The Lego Movie 2 and Slumberland. So we’re sure it’s going to be a fun movie.
