What Britney Spears Shared About Her Life in Her Book The Woman in Me

Britney Spears released her memoir The Woman In Me in October and there’s a lot of bombshell stories, most especially on her life as a mother, her marriages, and her family.

Britney Spears’ memoir The Woman In Me was released last October 24 in the US and has made headlines because of its content.

From her conservatorship, family troubles, marriages, and being a mother, here’s what has been released so far from the excerpts.

Britney Spears: No More Lies

In her interview with People, Britney spoke about writing the book.

“It is finally time for me to raise my voice and speak out, and my fans deserve to hear it directly from me,” she said. “No more conspiracy, no more lies — just me owning my past, present, and future.”

She also spoke of her dream of having a family which she has in her two sons – Sean Preston, 18 and Jayden James , 17, with ex-husband Kevin Federline, who are based in Hawaii with their dad.

“Being a mom was my dream come true.”

On second husband Kevin Federline

In an excerpt People shared from the memoir, Britney wrote of Kevin: “I held on to him like there was no tomorrow.”

“I thought Kevin would give me the stability I was craving — and the freedom, too.”

But that changed when Kevin got home from a party. “Kevin was just so enthralled with the fame and the power. Again and again in my life I’ve seen fame and money ruin people, and I saw it happen with Kevin in slow motion.”

The back-up dancer tried to launch a career as a rapper. Britney recalled that he would go home late at night from studio recordings. She eventually filed for divorce from Kevin in 2006.

“I was young, and I made a lot of mistakes. But I will say this: I wasn’t manipulative. I was just stupid,” she said of her split with Kevin. “That’s one thing Justin and Kevin ruined about me. I used to trust people. But after the breakup with Justin and then my divorce, I never really did trust people again.”

Her highly publicized relationship with Justin Timberlake

She also wrote of her much talked about relationship with Justin Timberlake which was scrutinized by the public. In the book, not was only their relationship the topic of the town, she also wrote about having to abort her and Justin’s child.

“It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” she wrote, which People published.

“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”

Britney said that if she had it her way, she would have not done it at all.

“To this day, it’s one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life.”

On her relationship with her family

Britney Spears’ The Woman In Me also included allegations where she thought her family was trying to kill her. After her marriage to Kevin Federline collapsed and she was placed under a conservatorship, she wrote she felt forced to do things. She also said there were so many instances she tried to fight back.

“And here’s the sad, honest truth: After everything I had been through, I didn’t have a lot of fight left in me. I was tired, and I was scared, too. After being held down on a gurney, I knew they could restrain my body anytime they wanted to. They could’ve tried to kill me, I thought. I started to wonder if they did want to kill me.”

Britney’s love-hate relationship with sister Jamie Lynn

On the other hand, Entertainment Weekly chose to focus on her relationship with sister Jamie Lynn. Some of the things she wrote include how her sister was ungrateful and when she sought help against the conservatorship.

At one point, Britney even asked her mom why she was letting her sister get away with hateful words after getting them a house.

“Are you going to let this little witch talk to you like that?'” she recalled. “She was not exactly grateful for it. She’d later say, ‘Why’d she get us a house?’ — like it was some sort of imposition.”

She also wrote how she wished Jamie Lynn sided with her instead of their dad at the height of the conservatorship.

“As I was fighting the conservatorship and receiving a lot of press attention, she was writing a book capitalizing on it,” Britney said pertaining to her sister’s book Things I Should Have Said.

“She rushed out salacious stories about me, many of them hurtful and outrageous. I was really let down. Shouldn’t sisters be able to confess their fear or vulnerability to each other without that later being used as evidence of instability?”

Despite the issue between them, Britney said she wishes nothing but the best for her sister.

“She’s been through a lot, including teen pregnancy, divorce, and her daughter’s near-fatal accident,” Britney said. “She’s spoken about the pain of growing up in my shadow. I’m working to feel more compassion than anger toward her and toward everyone who I feel has wronged me. It’s not easy.”

Moving on from the pain

Days after the book came out, Britney took to her social media accounts to say that all of these things happened 20 years ago and she has moved on.

“This is actually a book I didn’t know needed to be written,” she wrote on Instagram. “Although it might be offending, it has given me closure on all things for a better future.”
