Halloween has always been an opportunity to breathe from the daily grind. While parents attend parties and trick-or-treat for their kids, it’s the opportunity for them to take time and curl up on the couch to watch shows and movies.

Thanks to streaming, classic films and TV shows are made accessible. Here are 10 classic Halloween shows and films you can check out and get chilled with drinks and snacks. Perhaps a hug from the spouse 😉

Friday the 13th: the TV series

Friday the 13th: The TV series is part of the Friday the 13th movie franchise, although the characters are different from the film. In the TV show, cousins Micki and Ryan inherit an antique store and sell all the antiques until Jack, a friend of the owner tells them the antiques are cursed. In its three seasons, the protagonists find themselves hunting all the antiques to lock them in a vault in the store.

Twilight Zone TV series

Twilight Zone first aired its TV series in 1959 and ended in 1964. A second series was aired from 1985 to 1989 followed by two more seasons from 2002-2003 and 2019-2020.

The Addams Family

No list would be complete without the Addams family. The beloved horror family has spawned a TV series animated film, live-action movies, and a spin-off called Wednesday.

The Munsters

The Munsters was a TV sitcom from 1964 to 1965 about a family composed of Frankenstein Eddie Munster, Lily, his vampire wife, and their werewolf son-like Eddie. They are joined by a grandpa, the aged vampire, and Marilyn, their niece in a series of hilarious adventures as they adapt to the world of humans.

The show has spawned a revival and a movie.

Halloween films

If there’s one movie on everyone’s list to watch during the spooky season, it would be the Halloween franchise. Jamie Lee Curtis plays Laurie Strode, who has become the target of Mike Myers, the main antagonist in the franchise. In the course of its 13 films, Laurie has battled Mike Myers in several moments, stopping him from killing people.

Scariest Places on Earth

The Scariest Places on Earth is a paranormal TV show aired from 2000 to 2006 and hosted by Linda Blair, known for her appearance in The Exorcist. The show spotlights hunted places, including families taking on the challenge of doing paranormal work.

Scream movies

Wes Craven’s Scream has become one of the most watched and successful film franchises. It made actress Neve Campbell, who rose to fame in the show Party of Five an icon in the slasher/horror genre.

Charmed

Charmed has become a phenomenon for its empowering message for women. It tells the story of three sisters – Prue, Piper, and Phoebe, who discover they are the Charmed ones, the most powerful Wiccan sisters. Following Prue’s death, Piper and Phoebe discover that they have a half-sister named Paige, born out of forbidden love from their mother and her white lighter.

The show was revived for a new generation but received a negative reaction.

Nightmare on Elm Street

Another classic franchise, Nightmare on Elm Street has become a favorite during the season as Freddy Kruegar hunts everyone.

Shake, Rattle, and Roll franchise

Philippine cinema would not be complete without the Shake, Rattle, and Roll franchise. Alongside its sister show, Regal Shocker, the Shake, Rattle, and Roll films have become part of the Christmas tradition and Halloween in the Philippines.
