Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre Recap — Grief, War, and the Rise of New Heroines
As a prophecy unfolds and mothers fall, a new generation steps up to carry the flame
The sequel to Encantadia, Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre is entering its third week with viewers glued to their screens. As the battle begins, let’s look back at the first two weeks — a whirlwind of grief, legacy, and transformation.
The Rise of the New Heroes
In the pilot episode, Imaw, the wise Adamyan, teaches the three young sang’gres — Flamarra, Adamus, and Gaea — about the great war their mothers once fought. As he speaks, Alena, Danaya, and Pirena reminisce about their sister Amihan, who died in battle.
Their reunion is interrupted when Cassiopeia, Lireo’s first queen and now a goddess, appears with a dire warning.
After speaking with Cassandra, Lireo’s current queen, the sang’gres waste no time. They begin training their children, each in their own way –Pirena teaches Flamarra to be both courageous and wise, Danaya helps Gaea connect with the earth, and Alena guides Adamus to move with the rhythm of water.
But Cassiopeia soon sees a vision that will alter the fate of Encantadia — Gaea will not inherit the Earth Gem. Instead, a second child, born of Danaya and a mortal, will rise as the kingdom’s savior. Despite misgivings, Cassandra sends Danaya, Aquil, her husband, and Gaea to the mortal world, leaving Alena and Pirena behind with dismay.
A Darkness Awakens
Meanwhile, a new force emerges: Mitena. Introduced as Cassiopeia’s twin sister, Mitena was banished to the realm of Mine-a-ve after she was born as an ivtre or cursed child. She grew up serving the beast Arsus. Guided by the goddess Ether, she was able to escape and was brought into an icy cave, where she slayed a guardian and claimed a powerful scepter.
She then kills Ether and defeats Arsus, proclaiming herself as Kera (queen) of Mine-a-ve.
Grief in the Mortal World
In the mortal realm, Danaya and her family build a quiet life. She uses the earth gem to find gold, but the wealth invites danger.
While Danaya searches for gold, Aquil and Gaea are ambushed. Aquil is shot, followed by Gaea. Overwhelmed by grief and rage, Danaya hunts down their killers. Then, wracked with guilt, she punishes herself — shapeshifting into a dog and wandering the streets in sorrow.
She’s found by Theo, a kind stranger who takes her in. Touched by his compassion, Danaya eventually returns to her human form. Love blossoms, and she gives birth to Terra, the child foretold in prophecy.
But tragedy strikes again when Theo is killed by an arrow meant for Danaya, shot by Mitena’s general, Olgana. In death, Theo fulfills his promise: protecting Danaya and their daughter at all costs.
The Sisters’ Burdens
Back in Encantadia, Alena and Pirena continue preparing their children. But they, too, carry heavy emotional wounds.
Of the sisters, Alena has endured the deepest heartbreak. She lost her first son, Khalil, and her great love, Ybarro — who later became Rama Ybrahim of Sapiro and fell for Amihan. In a quiet moment, Alena is visited by a retre (a butterfly, symbolizing death), signaling Ybrahim’s passing. It’s revealed they had reunited, married, and had a daughter, Armea — now queen of Sapiro.
Actress Gabbi Garcia, who plays Alena, honored single mothers in a touching post on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Cheers to all the single mothers – Selfless, pure-hearted, and full of grace. True queens with strength, dignity, and class. You deserve nothing less than the world.”
Meanwhile, Pirena is hit with the most devastating blow of all. Her eldest daughter, Mira, and niece Lira, Amihan’s daughter, are killed in a surprise attack in Sapiro. Their deaths ignite her fury. Grief gives way to vengeance, and Pirena swears to make their killers pay.
The Test of the Sang’gres
As Alena and Adamus try to warn Cassandra, they discover she’s already been killed — Mitena had disguised herself as both Cassandra and Cassiopeia to strike at Lireo from within.
In a shocking turn, Mitena imprisons Alena. Adamus watches helplessly as his mother disappears before his eyes. The trauma hardens his resolve: he will stop Mitena no matter the cost.
When Armea learns of Lira and Mira’s deaths and her mother’s disappearance, she orders Mayca, captain of the Sapirean guards, to prepare for war. The kingdoms must unite – or fall.
What Comes Next
In just two weeks, Sang’gre has delivered powerful emotional arcs, shocking deaths, and a gathering storm of war. As the new sang’gres — Terra, Flamarra, Adamus, and Deia begin their journeys, they will carry the weight of their lineage, the hope of their kingdoms, discover strength in each other, and the scars of those they’ve lost.
This is only the beginning.
