Families are Crying Over BTS Going on Hiatus
Korean group BTS announced that they will be taking time off to concentrate on solo projects. And families are heartbroken about it.
Korean group BTS announced on Tuesday, June 14, that they will be taking a break from group activities. The announcement was made during a dinner party which was streamed.
“We’re going on a hiatus,” Suga says, clarifying that they are not disbanding.
The group’s leader RM said they will be focusing on solo projects. He also mentioned that following the release of the hits like “Dynamite,” “Permission to Dance,” and “Butter,” he felt they were a different group.
“The problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don’t give you time to mature. You have to keep producing music and keep doing something…there’s no time left for growth,” RM shares.
“Right now, we’ve lost our direction and I just want to take some time to think and then return. But that just feels rude to our fans, like I’m letting down their expectations,” he adds.
We will be back
Jungkook assured their fans that they will return and will just have time off from each other to do their solo works.
“We’re each going to take some time to have fun and experience lots of things. We promise we will return someday even more mature than we are now. So I just hope that you could give us your blessing,” he requests.
J-hope adds, “I think we should spend some time apart to learn how to be one again…I hope you don’t see this as a negative thing and see that it’s a healthy plan.”
The announcement comes after the group recently released their anthology album Proof 48 and celebrated their 9th year together.
Hybe, the group’s management, however, clarified that the group will not take a hiatus but focus on solo work for the time being.
“BTS are not taking a hiatus. Members will be focusing more on solo projects at this time,” the company said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.
Busy year
Since debuting in 2013, BTS has been on a roll. Aside from performing in concerts around the world and attending music events, the group has become ambassadors for South Korea on numerous occasions. They have also attended events at the United Nations, speaking up on issues such as bullying and mental health.
In addition, the group recently paid a courtesy call to President Joe Biden to discuss how to take further steps in fighting the discrimination against Asian-Americans.
