Filipino Pride Takes the Spotlight in DreamWorks’ Forgotten Island

Lea Salonga, H.E.R., Liza Soberano, and Manny Jacinto have been announced as part of the cast

Many kids have always been fascinated by Philippine mythology. These stories — shared through books, television, and family tales — offer a glimpse into the country’s rich culture, one that has often been forgotten in mainstream media. Now, that heritage is coming to the big screen — and not just any big screen — but Hollywood’s.

On Thursday, October 30, the official Instagram page of the animated movie Forgotten Island announced that several Filipino talents will be featured in the film.

The Filipino Cast

Broadway legend Lea Salonga commented “Ayan naaaa!” on the post, expressing her delight. The Tony Award–winning singer, known globally for Miss Saigon and as the singing voice behind Disney’s Princess Jasmine and Mulan, is currently on tour in North America for The Stage, Screen & Everything In Between.

Liza Soberano, who rose to fame in Philippine television, continues to build her international career after her Hollywood debut in Lisa Frankenstein.

Grammy Award–winning artist H.E.R. (Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson), known for hits like “Best Part” and “Damage,” will also lend her voice to the film.

Completing the main cast is Manny Jacinto, the Filipino-Canadian actor best known for The Good Place and Star Wars: The Acolyte.

The Story

According to early details, Forgotten Island follows two friends — Jo (voiced by H.E.R.) and Raissa (voiced by Liza Soberano) — who find themselves stranded on a magical island called Nakali. To return home, they must make the painful choice to forget each other.

Behind the Scenes

The film is written and directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the creative duo behind Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Universal Pictures has set a release date of September 25, 2026.

Why Families Should Watch

With its themes of friendship, memory, and culture, Forgotten Island is shaping up to be a story families — especially Filipino families — can look forward to sharing. More than a movie, it’s a celebration of heritage and storytelling that bridges generations.
